It seems like some of the shooters here don't like what they term mandatory options, ie $25.00 per 100 targets which includes trophies or money prizes.
If you had the choice at sign-up of $20.00 per 100 targets only and a $5.00 option going towards money prizes, how would you enter? The scores would reflect what everyone shot, so a high score without the option played would be shown as such. Please answer YES or NO on the $5.00 option. With the cost of lead and gas, I want to see if the $15.00 on 3 events for the day make a difference to anyone. Thanks, Harv.

I guess I should answer my own question. YES. I don't go to the gambling boats, etc. so I figure it as my little bit of gambling for the day. Harv

I would prefer shooting for trophies. I will shoot for money if that is all that is available. I will not play options where the odds are against my winning.

    No.

If I want to bet at the racetrack, I want to be on my own horse, not one issued to me by track management.

If I want to shoot targets only, I'll go practice by myself.

flf, I think he is talking about the trophies part of the typical "Targets and Trophies" fee, not about actual options like purse, lewis, etc.

Add'l $5.00 per event option if money is kept in class for class or in yardage group for yardage group. Paid 60/40 if more than 5 shooters in class. One money if less than 5 shooters in the class; in either case ties divide.

Or $2 of entry fee paid if money is kept in class for class or in yardage group for yardage group. Paid 60/40 if more than 10 shooters in class. One money if less than 5 shooters in the class; in either case ties divide.

Yardage groups are a discussion point because some believe hdcp already
addreses the difference in ability but other will argue. So why not have
ydg groups - what does it hurt. Better to spread the winnings.

If a shooter wants to declare a special class ie jr, vet, lady, sr vet then
that money is placed in that special class.

    Either alternative works for me.

    Harv -

I'll shoot any target, any time, just tell me where they are throwing them.

That said, I believe the entry fee should include prizes (be they cash or trophies). I believe everything past that should be optional.

If there is going to be a competition there should be a prize.

I want to shoot registered targets, lots of registered targets. Money and trophies are not too important to me. But, I have an inconsistency with my position. When I am at a shoot, I will shoot my very best and hope that I do win a trophy. After I win the trophy, I may pick it up or I may just let the club use it over. The trophy is not important but winning the trophy is important.

If I decide I want to gamble at a shoot, I will get into a poker game. Would anyone like to assess the probability of me beating Leo and Kay at singles and 7 card stud? I think, but I am not sure, that I did play a Lewis option once or twice last year. I do not remember if I won or lost.

No. But I would not deny anyone else the option of gambling.
