That is sad news, if indeed it's true.

It's true. I just talked to someone that talked to Jennifer. They closed down their golf courses too. What a shame. Hullchucker

The rumor is indeed true. Red Mountain is closed. When my staff and I arrived at work, we were told that the Tribal Council has made the decision to close the facility permanently. There was no warning or mention prior to today. This has been extremely hard for me and my family. We poured our hearts and souls into that club. My girls were raised out there, we met many many friends through the 14 years I was employed there. No one is more shocked and upset over this than I. I received many phone calls today on my cell phone - if you called, and I didn't respond, please don't take offense, and please understand that I am having a rough day!
When I have more information, I will pass it along.
    Thanks,
    Jennifer Mennetti

Makes a person think about what would happen if the State of Illinois did something like this with Sparta. Neither the tribal council nor the State of Illinois would have to go broke, just make a decision to quit putting funds into a gun club for any reason such as a majority of those in control being anti-gun. Strength is in owning your own land, not just part of it as in Vandalia.

Southbend, Unfortunately, That's a very good and legitimate point. On another thread on Red Mountain I have expressed my thanks to Jennifer as she and her staff did a very good job for the shooters there. Back to your point, if you don't own it you really have no control over it. Bob

Southbend, I understand your point but must negate it because of the magnitude of the Sparta investment.

I have shot many targets at Red mountain, and liked it very much. But I think the tribe would find other uses for the property, and the investment there is a lot lower than Sparta.

Could it be there is an agenda hidden somewhere?

    AZ guys. what's up?

So, would the tribal council be willing to sell the range? Maybe this is an opportunity for someone in AZ to own a nice facility.

    Shoot well and often,

    Mark.

The club is on the reservation so unless you are a Native American Indian I'm not sure you'd qualify to purchase it, if it was to be sold ... There are a lot of unanswered questions that need to be addressed and there are people who are attempting to find out all of the particulars and reasons why ... The Tribal Council does not owe anyone any explainations and they know it, but if this is handled right and the Council is approached properly they may or may not tell the reasoning behind this ... Jennifer would know more than anyone else because she has been there over the years, even before she became the Manager in charge of the operation of the club ... This is not a good thing for trapshooting in the State of Arizona and will probably have an impact on all of the other shoots in the State if the Tribe is steadfast with their decision to close the club and keep it closed ... I think we all hope this is not permanent and can be worked out to everyones satisfaction ... I guess we will all see sooner or later ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I suspect that in the next couple of weeks we will hear many rumors. I hope that someone in the know will help keep the rumors down and the real truth in the forefront. This is a tremendous blow to trap shooting in Arizona and hopefully something can be done.

They already have a casino. As for the money, yeah, so what's your point?

Jennifer, thanks for responding so quickly to my original thread. Craig and I spent many many seasons at Red Mountain before he passed away in 2005. We always were treated so well and you and your family were and still are dear to me. The best of luck to you in the future. I will miss Red Mountain and all the people we met and grew to love there. If ever a gun club was run properly, it was under your leadership at Red Mountain. God bless you and your family.

I know that this is probably too soon to ask, but when will the AZ Board meet to discuss what to do with the dates Red Mountain had for this year? Maybe someone could contact Prescott to see if they could handle a weekend or two.

What about Ben Avery? Jeni4 would make a great trap/skeet manager there. Would make a great replacement for RM. As far as I'm concerned the combination of RM's old registered shoot dates, Jeni4 and Ben Avery should please most of the shooters and the State of AZ and it's new investments it has made in the facility. Now all they need is enough camping for all snowcampertrapshooterbirds.
