THIS DOES NOT BELONG IN THE SHOOTING SECTION - MODERATOR

With the Christmas season upon us I was wondering if anybody out there has a recipe for making rum balls. My aunt used to make them during the holidays with dark rum and I miss having them during the holidays.

    -Seasons Greetings everyone-

Try this and click on above URL.

Very good and easy...use spiced rum or bourbon.

    Merry Christmas,

    Ahab,

If you guys want to have a bunch of fun around the holidays and at parties, try this:

Go out to the store and buy a large bottle of marachino cherries and a bottle (to match the volume of the cherry jar) of 151 rum and bring them home. Pour out the cherry juice in the sink, retaining the cherries in the jar. Fill the jar with 151 rum and put the lid back on the jar. Set the cherries aside on a shelf in a cool dark place for about three weeks. The cherries will soak up the rum and you can hand them out at parties. They are kind of like having a jello shooter but the sweetness comes from the cherries. They are great! Not for the timid or lightweights!

1 5oz can evaporated milk, 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 cup brandy or rum, 1 16 oz package vanilla wafers (finely crushed), 2 cups walnuts (finely chopped), 1/2 cup powdered sugar. Melt chocolate chips with evaporated milk in double boiler, remove from heat and mix in rum, crushed vanilla wafers, and walnuts. Chill mixture for 30 minutes in fridge. Use a teaspoon to make small balls and roll in powdered sugar. Store tightly sealed in fridge. It is best to make these a few days before you need them. Ed

    WPT,

The first time I made those 151 cherries I was working for a very liberal thinking organization and I went around selling them at work during the holiday season for 25 cents each. I was making a killing...and most of the employees were unable to continue working!

Same recipe as Bucko43 except I use Everclear grain alcohol. It makes the ladies giggle, and puts pep in your step.

I don't think you can get Captain Morgan's in 151 proof...

Barry, Captain Morgan is what i used. I made them per the recipe, then tried it with "key lime cookies", with "graham/chocolate chip cookies" and tried a batch with vanilla wafers and Irish Cream. All were outstanding. You must go by the recipe except for the type of cookie you use. I varied the recipe on one batch by leaving out the cocoa and those turned out gooey. Best rum balls I've ever had! The key lime version was a real surprise and crowd pleaser!
