Very few are neutral about the looks of the S&W Model 49 Humpback:

No such thing as ugly when yo are talking firearms. Some are just better looking than others.

"The front of the cylinder looks too shinny like its contacting the barrel. Is that lead shavings inside the cylinder? It doesn't look like lint."

Cylinder face does clear the forcing cone

front of cylinders had flaked powder residue but no green streaks with Hoppes so it is not lead.

Looks like the first owner fired off a box of dirty burning ammo and did not clean it afterwards.

When using Hoppes copper leaves green (blue) streaks not lead. Bud Wood

I'd adopt that ugly thing and give it a great home.

I had one once that looked just like that - even to the Tyler T-grip. I had the grooves ground off the trigger which made a smoother double action.
I carried it in a Burns-Martin triple draw shoulder holster.

When you really need a handgun, the uglier they are the better.

Very useful handgun although it would be a strech to call it pretty.

Don't worry about the fouling, won't affect a thing and a couple cylinders of jacketed ammo will take it right out. I rarely go out with a freshly cleaned gun. That's one of the beautiful things about the wheel gun, very forgiving when it comes to cleaning intervals.

Any gun that can save my life is not ugly. It has its place in the gun world just as much as the hammer gun.
