Gizmodo reports that it appears that TSA was NOT using the body scanners at many large airports yesterday. Gee, I wonder if they figure by making it look like the "Opt Out" protest did not have many protesters (because the Opt Out option was not available because the scanners were not even being used) TSA could claim no protests. But wait for a few days and see if they kick them back on.

    Excerpt from Gizmodo:

According to tweeting travelers, many backscatter and millimeter-wave AIT scanning machines at airports are not in use at all, making opting out impossible. We've asked DHS/TSA for comment, but you can help us confirm.

Not every airport in the country even has the "Advanced Imaging Technology" scanners installed. (A post at FlyerTalk.com has an up-to-date list of airports with the machines, as well as specific terminals.

Gizmodo commenter "The Dewd" posted the above image showing Twitter updates that indicate that many of the machines are off, including this tweet from "_msw":

Through TSA checkpoint at SEA in 10 minutes flat. Many backscatter scanners are off. No scan, no patdown.

The presumption by some is that the TSA has deactivated the AIT machines in an effort to both increase throughput of travelers through the scanning process and to diffuse protest by the grassroots National Out-Out Day movement.

They just don't want CNN broadcasting wall-to-wall holiday interviews of people who got their holiday travel delayed, fondled, or otherwise messed up.

Don't worry...the worthless jack-boot government pension freeloading perverts will be back to checking out children as soon as the "all clear" email goes out Monday morning.

I do not think any of this is the idea of any of the workers who now are forced to physically check people. That decision was made by high level Federal emplyees who are not affected themselves. The idea that being politically correct is a virtue has weaked this country to the point LIBERTY is just a word in the dictionary. Let's misuse all the American citizens so that we can be nice to a bunch of foreign people who want to destroy our country, and let's sell it to the citizens as the right thing to do. I suppose next they will have to redefine the word LIBERTY in the dictionary. It is a "BRAVE NEW WORLD" ever since "1984".
