Rare Black Fawn

    Just recieved these pictures of a rare black fawn deer and thought they are interesting enough to share. Has you ever seen such a thing? I have seen a white deer and a white moose and a white bear more than once, never seen the white elephant people talk about though. I hope you enjoy these pictures. All the best.

    That's a melanistic fawn. You can see the mother carries some of the trait. They can be found around Austin, TX, although they are quite rare. That photographer shot these photos for an article that is coming out in some deer hunting magazine this fall.

    For inquiring minds that wnat to know more about this rarity, more rare than an albino.

    Thanks, setter! Your article had the name of the magazine in it. "Deer and Deer Hunting." Martin must have read that publication at some point or another. I've never seen it.

    30 years in taxidermy I have mounted a few of each deer, foxes, squirrels,coyotes and ground hogs. It is more rare than albino, have been told by DFW they do not live long. thanks for shareing Ronnie
