Question for 870 Experts

    Why are the slide rails on these 870's different? The first pic is a early 70's TC and the second pic is a 1966 TB. There is a notch on the TC slide, kind of "L" shaped. All my other 870's have the notch too. Sorry, pics are sort of blurry.

    I could be wrong, but it looks like the first gun's rails are wider toward the back and step down in width while the second gun's rails appear to be narrow for their full length. Why? Production specification change, I guess.

    Ed, yep the 1st guns rails are wide coming out of the receiver and then step down closer to the forend. The 2nd guns rails stay the same width. I have a few 870's and they all have the step. I picked up this new TB yesterday and was wondering why it was different.
