I always thought that snow fell down. I'm in Chicago
and the snow is going sideways. Is this normal?

The term "windy city" is a reference to the long winded politicians in Chicago. The wind is called the hawk. when it comes from the north or west the snow goes sideways.

Please, I used to live there. I know full well about the "hawk". I'm sure I'll get no sympathy from the northern contingent about projected lows of 33f here in S. Florida tomorrow night. Probably going to have to put on long pants.

We get snow too, but watching the news channel, you folks are getting killed with the white stuff.

Stay warm and let the idiots drive.

I lived in Chicago during the two blizzard years that were back to back

One January the real ( not this sissy windchill) averaged well below zero- I think 10 below for the entire month- there were days it was 18 or 19 below and the wind was blowing 30-40 mph

Now it snowed 4 feet that month

So much for the myth that it doesnt snow much when the temp is below zero

    regards from Iowa

The wind doesn't blow in Chicago. Like everything else there, it sucks.

We are accustomed to snow here in Maine.
Just follow the rules and you will be OK.
    Hope this clears things up.

Saturday, we were on Rt 29 heading south to Iowa when they shut it down @ 2:00. 45-50 mph wind, -35 wind chill, and the snow was vertical. Could not see the truck in front of us. Couldn't even see the exits. They parked Snow plows along the road with flashing lights gradually forcing us off the exit at Vermillion, SD.

Luckily we had droids and started locating hotels for the night. We were there till 10:30 Sunday, and had clear roads till 10:00pm Sunday night when we hit the lake affect blizzard on I-80 East of Chicago. 35mph on the turnpike sucks. Got home at 3:00am.

I think this is my last pheasant hunt in December in South Dakota.
