We read the positive and negative responses here on TS quite frequently espousing the virtues of one kind or other of recoil reducing stocks. Regardless of which kind of felt recoil reducing stock is mentioned, if it fits the shooter, it works plain and simple. If it doesn't fit a shooter buying one on the open market possibly is too heavy or light, it isn't fair to bad mouth such a stock or the maker? Bad mouthing an ill fitting stock can run the gamut of any stock that doesn't fit that shooter which includes any kind of stock or the maker!! It wasn't designed to fit you period!

The secret of reducing felt recoil comes first through one that fits an individual. Second would be one that actually reduces felt recoil time after time shooting all three disciplines of trap. Trap shooting competition has more or less become a marathon of who lasts longer while dealing with the felt portion of recoil, sometimes shooting over two thousand targets! ProSoft fitted stocks fills that bill just dandy. Does for me even with my bad neck/back problems!

At our last Grand American there was some fantastic shooting by several great shooters! Since I happen to own a ProSoft, fitted to me, stock, I paid attention to those fortunate enough to partake how the other ProSoft shooters fared at this years Grand.

Tony Fortino, a ProSoft shooter from Ill. won the singles championship after a shoot-out with one of my favorite young men, Matt Bartholow of SD. Fantastic shooting by both these fine young men!! Tony F. also won the doubles championship in a shoot-out also!! That feat has been accomplished by others before but I don't think it's been accomplished by a JR shooter though?

Another stat I find interesting concerning the ProSoft stock users at this years Grand, they had five (5) ProSoft competitors listed in the top 20 in HOA!! Folks, that's 1/4 of the top contenders using a ProSoft stock any way you slice up the big pie!! Marvin Beumer(sp?) a friend and ProSoft user from MO was knocking at the door also!! Watch this guy too, he's storming the traps!!

    A HAPPY ProSoft owner HAP!!

The $$$$$$$ numbers simply don't allow big endorsement money from something like a stock manufacturer; sometimes top shooters will get some freebies.

Most times they will be "caught in the act" of using something that actually works.

And any free-ones or endorsements usually happen AFTER a guy wins a big event.

After reading these posts I can assure the readers here there is no money involved with these shooters using our products. All the shooters mentioned and all the others winning dis-proportionately high numbers of trophies paid good money for their stocks! It's up to you to figure out why????? We know why. Thanks to all! Keller, there's a hint of truth in your statement when it comes to gun and ammo BUT your all wrong applying that to ProSoft stocks!!

    Gapper actually hit the nail on the head with his statement though;

"Most times they will be "caught in the act" of using something that actually works."

ProSoft can't afford to give their livelihood away to potential winners, they don't need to since they have a winning stock figured out! It allows shooters to shoot about any shell and feel far less felt recoil time after time! That drastically matters long term on shooting many targets which is what trap shooting has become.

I have shot the Soft Touch, RAD and the ProSoft. The Prosoft is the smoothest, best fitted stock I have ever shot. I have not shot a StockLock as the seller did not show much interest in letting me try one. I like the mechanism in the ProSoft better, I believe it has less moving parts.

Phil did a really nice job fitting my Perazzi stock, the fit and mechanism reduces recoil so much that even after shooting the program and shootoff targets I was not fatigued and had no shoulder soreness.

I paid for mine and consider it a great product.

Hi Don, Hey great shooting in the clay target championship 200 straight and this years A class champion! Awesome! You, along with Dean Neumann, David Deitch, Tony Fortino, and John Harden were in that top group of the Clay Target. We were thrilled for all of you! Thanks so much! I have used other systems, the key before Pro-soft a perfect gun fit is needed and Phil Simms is the best as for as gunfiter when other systems quit working shooters did not realize because of the gunfit (by Simms) was right on target. I chose Pro-soft because of Phil and Nate's ability to build a stock that fits the shooter and as things change with the adjustable comb can make corrections as needed. I payed for my own!! They do not need to buy shooters recommendations the investment speaks for it self comfort in shooting if you shoot alot. Thank you Pro-soft Love the Gun!!! Jan Slough

I choose ProSoft for my K-80 Trap Special after looking at the mechanical parts. Nothing else comes close in simplicity and dependability. I shot mine for about three years with absolutely no problems or maintenance issues of any kind. Then I sold the stock to a friend, Bob Hawkes, and never heard of any problems with that stock. Then sold the gun, as I was trying to retire from shooting.

Well, my wife insisted that I start shooting again so I bought a Perazzi TMX and had Phil and Nate build me a new ProSoft stock for it. I couldn't be happier with their product and service.

I have been a friend of Phil's for at least 30 years. I did not expect or receive any discount or free stocks from him, I paid the same price everyone else pays, and I'm happy to do it. His product is worth every penny, they don't have to buy their way to the winners circle, the winners come to Phil.

I was in the stock alteration business for quite a few years and installed hundreds of medium priced recoil reduction systems (RAD & Gracoil). Those products are high quality units for their price point. But for the premium systems, I've been around and have seen them all and I feel the ProSoft is the best working, smoothest system out there with the added benefit of being
    very low maintenance.

I chose the ProSoft for my own gun and added a custom fitting session with Phil because I wanted his many years of fitting experience to go along with what I knew about my own preferences with my personal stock configurations. You get a custon stock with your ProSoft and if you can see Phil or Nate at a shoot and get fitted - or make an appointment to go to their shop for a fitting - you have the best of both worlds, a custom fitted stock and the wonderful ProSoft
system. If you already have a stock that fits you well and can't arrainge a custom fitting session for your ProSoft they can duplicate those dimensions in a new stock.

No, I don't get paid to endorse their system and I paid full price for my unit but Phil and Nate's ProSoft is the best premium system out there for my needs and I don't mind sharing my knowledge and experiences to help other shooters consider a more comfortable shooting experience.

Over the years, I've said this many, many times before. The stock thats fitted to the shooter is what allows the shooter to shoot more consistent scores!! Make of gun? It doesn't truly matter too much as long as it's dependable for the duration within reason.

From my own personal experiences and others above, I'd rather have a great stock such as a fit to me ProSoft on a cheap gun rather than a high dollar gun with an ill fitting stock if I had to shoot it as is!! We pay way too much attention to which kind of gun to buy rather than the most important aspect of shooting any shotgun with consistency?

I've paid more for some of the scopes on my rifles than I did the rifle!! Why? Because a rifle is only as good and accurate as it's sights are. To get the utmost accuracy requires good scopes. On a shotgun, your eye on the comb IS the rear sight!!

Trap shooting is a matter of pointing in accurate inches, not feet as some think. That statement isn't mine alone, ask Phil Kiner about that sometime, he'll tell you the same thing with greater clarity!!

For the most part, I've always shot a heavy shotgun by adding weight in the stock and mag tubes, for reduced felt recoil. What I learned with my ProSoft is it has the ability to absorb the felt portion in the same manner even though it weighs less than my weight added stocks! If I can ever get another ProSoft, it too will be the heavier kind for even less felt recoil!! Less felt recoil means a more precise point time after time!!

I agree with Twinbirds! There's no way I'd buy someone else's fitted to them stock unless I shot it first and knew I could modify it so it matched my fit numbers. Without that, what a waste of good money even if it was a steal!

7mag, I don't know how many ProSofts are in use by posters here on TS that have had them fitted? Not too many would be my guess otherwise they would be posting the virtues of how this stock actually helps in reducing felt recoil like no other I've ever tried!

If you could make your 7 mag have the same felt recoil as a .243, would that help your shot placements, especially off-hand shots?

Doggone it Hap, I should have checked with you before I bought my ProSoft off of Nate's gun. Dropped 11 targets, out of the 1200 ATA singles I have shot since I got it. I knew something was wrong, lol.

You are right though on the custom fitting, I just got lucky on mine. Harv

Thanks yeah I wouldn't do it unless it was to my dimensions that fit me. I've already had a couple custom fitted stocks from another stock fitter. They shoot where I'm looking and don't have a problem with stock fit and they helped a lot with recoil with no devices. Was just wondering about the pro soft and how much more recoil it would take out of the shot.

Just to clear up a common misconception--- nearly all our stocks are built to customer--custom dimensions. Either at our facility or off measurements taken from a customers proven stock.

While we prefer to have the shooter here to shoot on our trap and totally dial in the stock, we don't always have that luxury. A LOT of shooters including Tony Fortino went off their existing dimensions instead of making the trip here----so what I am saying is it does work!

I have plenty of examples to prove that point! Thanks Phil Simms Prosoft Recoil Systems

I'll pick up Hap's idea. At the 2011 Grand, I bought a Kolar Elite from Jeff Mainland. The gun was on consignment and had a stock on it that only the prior owner could have loved. Only with an adjustable Country Gentleman butt plate and pad could I get the gun to work for me. At the 2012 Grand, I got talking to Phill and Nate Simms about the ProSoft system. Nate let me take his Kolar and shoot a round with it. Wow.

As I recall, Hap was sitting in the tent with Phil and Nate. When I came back, I was convinced to go with the ProSoft system for a couple reasons: (1) I am partial to a wood stock that compliments the gun and (2) the PRoSoft system works.

Phil took measurements from my existing stock, did a fitting check and a few months later I had my new stock. I love it. Thanks for the recommendation in 2012, Hap.

Have a custom stock fitted correctly for you, shoot loads with reasonable recoil (don't need "Rhino Rollers" to break any trap target) and you won't have to contend with any infernal contraption at the end of your stock that compromises swing dynamics (plus adding a good dose of ugly) and you won't ever be cursed to have to shoot a release trigger. Until the ATA refuses to define legal ammo with less recoil, these discussions and products will go on forever.
