Honestly you shouldn't have to do a thing..they should just send you the check and you follow through on Canada rule on income taxes...just out of curiosity..what do y'all north of the border have in the way of taxes of income with respect to winnings? Hope you get to deduct the actual cost of what it took you to "Win" those funds

No taxes on winnings even if it is 30 mil in the lottery . Life is not that good with heavy taxes on everything . 13% in Ontario . Ken

NO sales provincial sales tax in Alberta, just the federal GST (grab and squander tax). Our new provincial "liberal" government which is actually called Conservative (what a joke) will institute a sales tax if given enough time....but no tax on "winnings" here either...

I agree as above. How the hell can you give something you don't have. Talk to Paul Shaw or maybe Terry Jordan or Bill Wylie. Can't be that difficult. Good luck, Joe.

Try asking Allan Radway. He's an Albertan and the incoming ATA President after all.

    Joe,

Bottom line, No Number, no money. ATA rule,

Yes it does sound like another stupid ATA rule.

I cannot imagine how this one slipped by, considering the Non-USA shooters that belong.

Heck, just fake something and they probably would never know...LOL

I do agree though that Paul Shaw would be your best bet..I'm sure he has won a "Little" in the past from the Grand and could tell you how he got the money.

Joe..The best thing to do is give them your sin # You will get a 1099 and when you do just file it, you won't have to pay any taxes on your winnings...

I'll be at ST. T this weekend if you need any more info....

Don't talk to anyone with experience. Just tell them no way and wait patiently by your mailbox for that check...

Seems to me that if the money was made in the U.S., the tax would be paid to the U.S. I would think that it would be the same process as winning money in Vegas, or the lottery, on amounts over $600. Unfortunately, I have never won more than $100 on anything. I am not a gambler though, so I don't know how the process works.

Where is that tax dude from on TS?

Tell the ATA to send Check and 1099 then throw the 1099 away.

12 gauge, 3"magnum, steel BB's or #2's over decoys in a corn or winter wheat field. Don't take 'em until you can see their eyes or half the flock has already set down!!!

Sorry, thought this thread was about shooting Canadians, geese, that is.

    Joe,
I normally just give my Social Insurance # at shoots. Even though it is 9 numbers long and I think US numbers are only 8, I have always got my cheques in the mail from shoots.

Since we're throwing up on this, here's the deal.

You will pay 30% tax on your winnings.
You must file a US income tax form to recover that 30%..

Talk to your Canadian ATA representative ..

There is a 30 percent with holding tax on gambling winnings for non resident aliens. You can only recover the withholding tax if you are a resident alien, then you are allowed to offset the winnings with losses and expenses. Does this tax apply to trap shoot winnings? HMB
