I use 17.4 gr. for both the 1 oz. and .75 oz. loads. Works great! Admittedly the 3/4 oz. loads are pretty fast, but fast, with no recoil, is good...

17.4 is fine. Use CB1100's and your copying my recipe. But if you shoot 16-20 yd line, You can drop as little as 16 grns and still be fine. About 1125-1140 fps, hardly any recoil. I go to 17.4 when i shoot behind the 22.
Il Shooter, 19.5 grns???! Really? Oh you'll know how it shoots, or at least your shoulder will the next AM. Promo is the best , cheap powder out there. Its $84 at my club in Ohio.
I use 18.7gr of promo for both 1oz and 9/8 loads.... shoot it in a Competition Synthetic so absolutely no recoil and at that loading it burns clean.. Larry
I've been using all this year for the first time I'm using 18.5 grains, 1 1/8 oz of recycled shot, cheddite primers and downrange wads in Gun Club shells so far no problem, I started using because of the price and it seems as good as either Red Dot or e3. Not as clean as e3 but for the price I can do a little more cleaning
promo in my opinion is hard to beat for the money... my favorite is 17.5 with a ounce of eagle 8 and green duster nobel or rio primer in gun clubs or sts/nitro
I have loaded up 4 boxes of the 20 gauge recipe posted above and shot 1 box so far (is there something I should know?)
Where are you guys finding 20g recipes for Promo? What kind of pressures are you running?? I know that Red Dot and Promo recipes are interchangable.......but I can't find any 20g recipes on the Allaint website.
I have old Hercules reloading manual from 1992 pressure is listed at 11,500 with 13 grains. I only use 12.2 grains with nobel sport primer since its cooler and shoot it in Rem 870
In my opinion, 18.5-19.5 Promo and 1-1/8 shot is way TOO MUCH! Where are you getting this data (and why do you think you need the speed)?
I'm using 16.5grs. with 7/8oz. with excellent results. One very good shooter at my club is using only 3/4oz. from 27yds., and consistently breaking birds!
In the 20ga., at skeet, I'm using only 11grs. with 3/4oz. Breaks every target I point right, and functions an 1100!
You guys quoting recipes that are over 25 years old do realize things change over time, don't you?
