FYI. Snopes indeed verifies this. I got this in an E-mail and thought that i would share this with you.

PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE is owned by Peter Lewis: Who is he? Read this...

VERY IMPORTANT INFO TO PASS TO EVERYONE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR COUNTRY.
You’ve seen and smiled at the Progressive Insurance TV commercials.
Well, you’re about to learn the rest of the story:

    PROGRESSIVE AUTO INSURANCE
You know their TV commercials, the ones featuring the ditsy actress all dressed in white. What you might not know is that the Chairman of Progressive is Peter Lewis, one of the major funders of leftist causes in America .

Between 2001 and 2003, Lewis funneled $15 million to the ACLU, the group most responsible for destroying what's left of Americas Judeo-Christian heritage.

Lewis also gave $12.5 million to MoveOn.org <http://moveon.org/> and American Coming Together, two key propaganda arms of the socialist left.
His funding for these groups was conditional on matching contributions from George Soros, the America-hating socialist who is the chief financier of the Obama political machine.

Lewis made a fortune as a result of capitalism, but now finances a progressive movement that threatens to destroy the American free enterprise system that is targeting television shows on Fox News.

Peter Lewis is making a fortune off of conservative Americans (who buy his auto insurance) that he applies to dismantle the very system that made him wealthy. He's banking on no one finding out who he is, so, STOP buying Progressive Insurance and pass this information on to all your friends.

    Progressive Insurance ?

My agent tried to get me to buy Progressive ins about a year ago. I told him it was a deal breaker and I would take my business elsewhere if he had no other ins to sell me. He did find another company after trying to convince me that Lewis is no longer involved with Progressive. I don't buy Progressive ins. and I don't buy gas at Citgo.

Regardless of any socio-political issues I've found Progressive to have much higher premiums than my current insurance provider for the same coverage.

And while we're at it, did you know that Snopes is heavily funded by George Soros?

If you want some truth about Progressive, here are the two of the most prevalent tactics of their HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL business model:

    1) Quickly cutting checks "on the spot" for 10-30% less than actual legitimate amount of claim. They built their business on young drivers, many of whom cashed the checks and spent the money. By the time they discovered how much damage their vehicles had actually sustained it was too late.

    2) They led the industry in forcing customers to accept used parts and inferior non-OEM parts on newer vehicles. Read the fine print.

Conoco-Phillips and a few others don't buy arab oil. Progressive wanted more than double what I was paying to insure my Harley. Their prices are so high I'm amazed they're still in business.

When they came to my state i looked at switching and i also found that the price was considerably higher than i was paying. I believe that they prey on the young drivers also.

I guess this job is not well suited for shelly,,,,although the insurance agents swindle the drivers out of the true cost of the claim, the checks they issue are legit LOL

Rustygun, They may have operations all over the world, but thier money goes back to the U.S. and it does not directly go to fund countries that don't like us. Their headquarters are in Texas.

There are many companies in this day an age that have plants set up through out the world but the majority of their money comes back to their headquarters.

As a resident of Illinois I am obligated to have auto insurance on every vehicle I own. When I see advertising on any company I ask for rates so I can compare with State Farm. I have checked out at least six different companies in the past three years. No one comes close. They are usually more than ten percent higher and sometimes almost twenty. Progressive spends a lot of money on advertising but they can't get their rates to challange the prices State Farm charges. Dan

Bob, I think that Coneco Phillips is a very good company, they have plants in my area, sold them material when I worked sales. I was replying to the post that said they don't buy Arab oil. They do exploration and production in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Libya, and many more countries around the globe,as do most large oil companies. If you don't believe me go to their website.

Gary is spot on. I had Progressive back in "91" I believe. Yes, they cut me a check super fast and would only pay for a junkyard door replacement on my 3 year old Van that had rustproofing. I told them that I wanted blank amount of money to fix it on a estimate I already had and they said here's a check for less. It was hire a lawyer or get a junkyard door. I dropped them like a hot potato right after that and never looked back. They were the cheap guys on the block back then. Never again. Yes, I was in my 20's back then as well. Break-em all. You had a 3 year old car and got a 3 year old door. If you read your policy that is standard wording in most policies. State Farm had a major law suit about this in IL a few years back. I also believe that Prog. would have guaranteed the work for as long as you owned the car. If nobody used after market parts then auto parts stores would be out of business.

But you all know more so no sense trying to explain.

Don, this was not "Standard Practice" 20 years ago!!! No other company was doing this back then. I left them after making the claim and moved to another company and the claim did not follow me. Try that one today. Break-em all. Jeff

Jeff, Sorry you need to do more research, This was standard policy by a lot of company's. I happen to own one of your so called "JUNK YARDS". Hate to tell you but it is still standard practice by most insurance companys. Need to read your fine print! Oh ya I have owned and operated my business for 30 years this year. Eleven to fifteen employees and gross sales over 2 million last year. Some JUNK YARD EH!
