At recent 100 bird 5 man team shoot a team only shot at 99 targets... here is how it played out. It was ten targets from each station, after the first 5 targets the puller called change. The team capt. had to correct the puller and they went on to shoot the next 5 targets at wich time the team capt had to call change.
The puller then said wait I have you marked for 11 targets!?! The team capt. then asked what did you mark them for? All hits were recored and the team went on to finish with one extra shell left after what should have been 100 targets.

How should this of been handled by both the team and the club? Whats fair to everybody including other teams at the shoot?

The scorer should have been flogged, and the team should have had an ice cream to go with their trophies.

The scorer got confused. That happens. The members of the squad should make sure the score is correct. Then had to know that they did not shoot 100 targets and they should have rectified the problem with the scorer before leaving the field.

how would that work put litle computers in the targets to see if they were broken or not i dont think there is enough people that shoot trap although i would love it if more people di but i still dont think any body could afford to pay for the hundreds of thousands of regesered targets people shoot every year and actuall come to think of it te cost would probably be kicked off to us the shooters i dont know about u but i think trapshooting is already to expensive but i am willing to pay it beacuse ilove the sport and the game would totally change if there were computers involved there would be no human errors

Keep in mind I am a relatively new trap shooter. At first, I was amazed at the squad leader's ability to count to five. One kind man then explained that he put the entire box of 25 shells into his shell bag, and when the top row was gone, it was time to move.

After the first station, someone in the group should have been able to count shells and tell how many had been fired. This is not true, of course, if no one had a box of shells, and all had dumped shells into a bag. I don't know what the rules say, but they should not have moved on if someone had 16 shells left in their first box of 25.

I keep my shells boxed, even reloads, and extra shells are carried in my pockets.

Many people today have problems counting to five, never mind ten.

Ten per post is a BAD idea

Flame away........... I really don't care

The squad should go to a club that doesn't shoot 10 per post.

Rebel ... dunner ... I like that, kind of sounds tupid so it emphasizes dumber by saying dunner.

Seriously ... if the squad leader signed off the score that he knows is incorrect that is a problem and if the squad knowingly knows the score is incorrect than that is a problem as well. I think the teams score should have been disqualified but it seems they are the only ones who knew it was wrong.

when this happens in Nevada, if the squad leader tries to sort things out, they kick him out of the shoot and have the sheriff escort him to the gate.

From what I’ve read the squad leader and the rest of the squad were being given credit for shooting targets that they did not shoot. From what I read they knew of the error before leaving the first post. From what I read it looks like the shooters on this squad were willing to be credited for the extra bird as long as it was listed as dead. If I read this correctly and if this is an accurate account. All the members of this squad should disqualify themselves from this event. Not doing so shows a huge character fault.

At the time they discovered that the score was incorrect and the scorer had made an error they should have made a correction. Had they all shot 9 birds they should have informed the scorer of their individual score on the first 9 birds and shot a 10th bird before leaving the post. Not doing this is cheating!

It is the shooters responsibility to be honest and let the scorers know when they’ve made a mistake. It makes me sick when I hear a shooter complains because a scorer has called the wrong score taking a bird away, but says nothing when they’re given a free bird. I’ve seen this happen way too often. In fact the worst case was in Prescott two years ago. A guy that was on my squad ran trap 1 & 2 but on trap 3 dropped a bird on his forth post. The scorer clearly called lost and the guy seemed very pissed. When I was walking to the 4th trap the guy talked with his buddy about the loss before looking at the sheet. I looked at my score but paid no attention to the other shooters score at that time. On trap 4 he again ran the trap. I was thinking that’s too bad, he was shooting well. Well it turns out that the scorer on 3 called lost but scored a hit. If it hadn’t been that the guy whined to his buddy after we finished trap 3 I wouldn’t think much about it. But I remember thinking what a dope, how could he knowingly take credit for that bird. My wife was on the squad also and she was pissed and wanted to say something, but I told her that it was his decision that he had to live with and that she shouldn’t get involved.
