Just purchased Winchester 209 primers and was shocked by the price. Saw them online for $28/1000 at Gamaliel but sold out and must pay Hazmat fee. I purchased them locally for $38/1000. Have I been had or is that the norm for just about all reloading gear, lead especially.

If you buy "retail" in small quantities you get hosed.

Ask around at your club. Many of us buy primers by the sleeve (5,000 ea) and you should be able to find someone who will sell you a 1000. Going rate for Win 209's is less than $30/1000.

If you have the money buy them by the sleeve. 5000 = 1 sleeve.

Also ask at your club if they have a reloading order go in when they order targets. Alot of co do sell reloading goods and targets. At our club they will add the two and the prices are much better. They will most of the time reduce the prices if you buy enough reloading things.

If the club doesn't permit it and or that co that they get targets from don't have reloading goods then find a co that will send a truck with your needs. One co that we have used in the past will send a truck to our place if the order is $10,000.00 or better. In other words no targets. With all the shooters we have that is not a problem. Just have people write down with order numbers what they want and with the order a check. One person takes in the orders and sends it out with payment. You work out who the checks are written to. That will save one and all alot of money for reloading goods.

Good luck and let us know how things go.

I buy from Connies, as Dan does, and find them the cheapest anywhere. If you can drive there, it is cheaper still. I'm glad I bought lots of shot at $24.99/bag, seeing the new price posted on their site. At those prices, new ammunition is cdheaper than reloading.
