Just out of curiosity how does 8,81/2 or 9 compare at 16 yrds. Is one preferred more than the other.

All three sizes, plus #7 1/2s will work at 16 yards.

    Use whatever you have!

Ahab- None of the sizes of shot you listed will work from the 16 yard line unless you point your gun properly. I am looking for a size of shot that does not require proper gun pointing. Any suggestions?

Pat, I'd be willing to try a ton or so of that stuff when you find it. In the interest of research, of course.

1 oz. of 8.5, loaded to 1200 FPS less recoil with good pattern density. My opinion.

For 16 yard? They all work fine, 7-1/2 through 9.

I missed more targets thinking about what shot to use. After many years of eating s--t, I decided to use 7.5 exclusively for Trap, Sporting Clays, Fitasc, Live Pigeons. 7.5's get's the job done, period!

I am going to #9 for 7/8 ounce loads to see if it patterns well and gives good breaks if so I plan on trying 3/4 ounce loads next as a project as I'm out of funds for bigger projects and I have to have something to fool around with as idle hands get me into trouble.

Pat try #12s but they might not have enough kinetic energy, they come in 22 rifle shot shells. I don't know anybody that sells them, maybe special order.

    just kidding

I'll sell you a BUNCH of shot at $10 a bag.

The bag will only have 6 or 7 lb of shot in them, mind you.

Do they make different size shot? One of the older gents at our club has made a habit of getting one shell from 25 different people and starting a pool for the Juniors that he can shoot a 25 with them,I have never seen him fail,he raises money for the juniors and it's a good lesson for the kids that it's the shooter not the ammo.) Jerry
