I prefer to be the squad leader, if possible. If not, I like post 4....Dan Thome (Trap2)

Why do you guys screw with your heads? If you have a preference and don't get it, then what?

5 and 1 are my hardest posts, so I like to start on 5, gets em out of the way early.

Ok no one used to like to lead from where I am from years ago so we always ended up on a 3 or 4 man squad so I started to lead off because if you go to a shoot and there is already post 1 filled then most of the time the squad will fill up before you shoot.

Ok the above photo is fussy im sure but from 1991 anyway me on the right position 1 and the rest of the squad to my left.

By the way last week end in Ohio we had full squads when I was on post 1

ABSOLUTELY agree. This is one issue I don't place upon myself, doesn't matter to me.

I start on station 4 since station 3 gives me the hardest time. But I love shooting Post 5 and then Post 2.

I usually tell the squadder "just put me anyplace you need somebody", I wind up shooting lead-off a lot------that's OK with me. That way I know I got a >good< squad leader.

I wanted 4 for a long time, and often it wasn't available. And then someone suggested 1. (Are you kidding? The first to shoot? I don't think I can handle the pressure!, and then for ATA doubles you don't get to see a pair after the first post).

Long story short. I love post 1. Interesting that a lot of the posts here also say 1, but in my area, on nearly any squad of any day of any shoot, it's generally open. I've even had squadders thank me for requesting post 1 since they have a hard time filling it.

As far as not seeing a pair after post 1, I got over it. I watch a few birds from the back of each post prior to my squad shooting, never have a problem. I'm not a great doubles shooter (C Class), but I did hit a 48 in the back 50 at our State Shoot starting at post 1. (Don't ask what I did in the first 50).
