Does anyone else notice a problem with powder fumes? Two powders really seem to get my eyes burning and give me a headache the next morming. Solo 1000 and the old Winchester Super Lite were the worst for me. I have switched to Red Dot, Green Dot and Clays and do not seem to have the problem. The other day while shooting, my eyes started to burn so I asked the shooter next to me what he was using for powder and it was Solo 1000. Any one else have this problem?

"Single base powders are based on nitrocellulose alone and double base powders contain nitroglycerine in addition to nitrocellulose, adding to its energy. Both types have their advantages and are widely used in small arms ammunition, and both types are available to reloaders. At the time of this writing, Winchester/Olin and Alliant exclusively produce double-base powders, all VihtaVuori and most IMR powders are single-base (700X and 800X are the double-base IMR powders that I know of), and Accurate and Hodgdon offer several powders of each type."

Since both powders you mentioned are double based powders, I would suspect that you are experiencing a reaction to the nitroglycerine.

It could be from the nitro, I have to take it sometimes for my heart, and it gives me terrible head aches

Better not use any Viagra after reloading LOL

Are you shooting a semi-auto by any chance? I shot an 1100 for many years and had the symptoms you mentioned next day. Watched another semi-auto shooter one winter night shooting under the lights. When the bolt unlocks and starts the ejection cycle there is a puff of burned powder pulled rearward with the hull. On occasion we see this as a flame too.

I`ve been using Solo 1000 and 700X for a very long time and never noticed any ill affects but the wrong double based Bourbon can really give me a splitting headache .
