A 99 cent large mesh aluminum kitchen strainer works fine. Shot is retained and powder shakes out into a container. No waste.

Until I got the drain screen, for small amounts I just separated the shot and powder by rolling the shot out between 2 cups.

One load ? Dump it on your lawn. The powder is a very good fertilizer and the lead will pollute the dirt a little. Be careful not to eat any dirt from the area you contaminated.

A cookie sheet can be used to separate shot from powder. Just shake it a little and the shot will roll to one end.

Get a half round strainer at any garage sale for less than .50 . Dump it in and the shot stays in it and the powder falls through into another container .
