Gun Owners of America E-Mail Alert

The Post Office is wading into the gun control debate.

That's right, the U.S. Postal Service is trying to keep people from shipping
replica or inert munitions through the mail.

They have no authority in the law, since Congress has kept for itself the
power to decide what can and cannot be shipped. But the Post Office is
trying to say that replica or inert munitions are hazardous!

Gun Owners of America's attorneys just found out about this outrageous
proposal which was issued by the Post Office. Although the deadline for
postmarking is Monday, April 7, our attorneys say that e-mails and letters
should be sent anyway.

If you are a re-enactor or collector of replica or inert munitions, you are
in the Post Office crosshairs. If you are not directly involved in this,
you should still be outraged that a bunch of bureaucrats are trying to
further restrict Second Amendment activity.

By the way, there is one interesting dimension to all of this: Canada wants
the US to help shut off shipment of these items into Canada. So it looks
like our bureaucrats are eager to appease other governments by changing our
laws to make them as bad as our neighbors'.

You can read the Postal Service proposed regulations here:

You can read GOA's comments to the Postal Service here:

ACTION: Please send your comments to the Post Office ASAP. The letter must
be postmarked by Monday, April 7, 2008. Here's the contact information.

Jeff, the situation is like this - Congress already set the laws about firearms shipments. USPS cannot do anything about changing them. only Congress can. But, Congress has not addressed the issue of inert or dummy ammunition. So some bureaucrat at USPS has taken it upon himself or herself to make an anti-gun political decision.

I see this as a set-up. I suspect that after the USPS bans DUMMY ammo, that some anti-gun group is going to start making noise that REAL guns are allowed, and try to ban them. It's like all the alls for more gun regulation after laws were passed for children's toy guns. Even now, the children's toy gun laws are being used to ban colors other than silver or black on real guns.

Always look down the road because the anti's always plan ahead with stuff like this.

"KIND OF STUPID" perfectly describes nearly every policy decision that this once-great service organization has made in the past, and will continue to make in the future.

As an employee, all I ever hear is preaching about what I can do to increase Postal revenue. And all I ever get from my efforts is the chance to stand by and watch as they invent (yet) another frivilous plan or practice to fritter it away.

After 20 years, I've stopped defending these imbeciles. Nothing would surprise me anymore.

The USPS hasn't accepted live ammo for quite some time. Only UPS and FedEx will ship live rounds as ORM-D cargo.

Live ammo is a no no, Alway's has been.

However, Any Questions on shipping of weapons in the U.S. Mail is covered in:
The Domestic Mail Manuel, or DMM, Chapter 25 is the place too look.
The info. with in is detailed clearly.

Every Post Office has an up to date copy, and are required to allow you to read it up on request.
Now from time to time you WILL run into a "KNOW IT ALL" Window Clerk with an agenda....Just be cool.
Ask to see the latest copy of the DMM and/or the Supervisor....About that time you'll see the light bulb come on in that Clerk eye...(I enjoy that part).

Good Luck

US post also won't,of their own volition, ship a gun to Canada even though it is leagal with the necessary permits.Just their own policy. We can however ship to the USA by postal service, they just won't wend out.You can send it,however if it gets lost, you won't get any coverage.Jack

RE: We can however ship to the USA by postal service

I would be interested in how you go about shipping a firearm to the USA.

Paperwork requirements (US and Canada), as you cannot use an ATF Form 6NIA to mail or ship a firearm or barrel to the US and I would love to see how you go about it, paperwork wise?

Also, are you talking Canadian Post?
