A lot of controvery on this. The holes are either drilled or EDM machined into the barrel. The process is dictated by hole size and shape. The escaping gases are supposed to reduce muzzle jump and reduce felt recoil. I have had all my barrels tuned and ported. I believe I have lowered the felt recoil. I have all my guns custom stocked, I only use Ken Eyster, Tom Wilkensen or Kerry Allor for the barrel work. I still have a TMX that I sent to (C.C.) Tom Seitz in 1982 or 3 and that is one incredible gun, pattern & recoil. I think the barrel tuning will do more than the porting.
