I have a friend that just broke his star wheel on an old 800. Let me know how you get along and what it will take to get one.

Better be careful making it out of a stronger material. Next time, it wont break but something made out of weaker material will and that could be very costly.

In 35 years of selling and rebuilding P/W machines I have never seen a bent Rack Gear. I've seen the press pin come out of a Rack Gear. I HAVE seen bent teeth on a Star Gear, but let me tell you, the guy who did it had to have both feet on the bench to do it, or was using hydraulings and did not stop.

There is a slightly new design of Index Pad, and the new Star Gears are more massive/thicker, and a nicely machined finish. The original Star Gears on the old machines were a stamped gear. It had ridges that tended to prematurely wear a groove in the main Pinion gear.

I have NEVER seen a new style Star Gear bent. Man, if that happened, I'd expect to see a reload absolutely beat to death.
