I've removed the bluing from the receiver and I have successfully removed the pits and scratches. I used up to 220 paper so far and plan to move up to 600 grit. I am hoping to polish the side parts of the receiver to a high shine, while leaving to top crown satin. I'll probably use a cotton wheel and rouge to get the shine. Will that leave residue on the steel that I should remove before bluing?

I am thinking I'll clean the polished parts with acetone before starting the blue. Is that enough?

Of course you will have residue on the steel!

Wash it HOT with Dawn dishwashing detergent. You can degrease a side of bacon with the stuff!
