I was told this Indiana State Police publicity photo was taken around 1955. There were those back then cocerned about the police buying and using excessed military vehicles.

Nothing new and nothing has changed...

Noknock1 you aren't serious you can't for one second believe that a lot of the posters here see those little Willies Jeeps as being anywhere near the same as these vehicles of today???? If so I think the canvas top must have afforded a lot of protection as compared to the pictures of these as posted the last time this came up.

I agree, those jeeps are not the vehicles of today, but "in the day" they were the same as vehicles of today. There is another thread going about why law enforcement will continue to utilize SWAT, rifles, and HEAVILY ARMORED VEHICLES.

Most of all the municipal police agencies really need to have some serious oversight!!

Still amazes me as to how many folks out there really think that the police actually protect them!!

The stupidity of the general public is just astounding (Obama as one example).

I see the point nocnock1. If you were a WWII vet in 1955 and you saw the police pull up in one of those jeeps and get out with an M1 you would probably think no differently than we do today with the vehicles and weapons the DHS are using.

no doubt that it is our culture, our national heritage to "have an enemy." Historically, the "enemy" is a greater threat when the economy is stalled or in a downward spiral and unemployment is up. Human nature, people are down on their luck, they are pissed and want to blame something. There has to be an enemy!

There are no other enemies left, we defeated the British, we slaughtered the Indians, we defeated Hitler and that whole socialism movement, we defeated communism, and a bunch of others left out between. what is left?

We have to have an enemy, so lets go with law enforcement. Yal, that is it, law enforcement being the puppets they are of the government are the 'new enemy' of at least a few very minute amount on this site. They are going to ensure that the New World Order will start smoothly (sarcastic font).

It's ironic that after the Iron Curtain fell, those behind it became more free while our government started taking our freedoms away.
