PITA Execs had a meeting yesterday and voted to honor ATA reductions. I expect details will be posted soon at www.shootpita.com

Here are the results of last nights meeting. The PITA has responded quickly to the latest ATA move in an effort to make the transition for ALL shooters, on both sides of the fence, as easy as possible.

    Dan Tome

    Date: January 11, 2012
To: All PITA State and Provincial Secretaries
    From: Sue Brewer, PITA Secretary
    Ref: Urgent Rule Modification
    On 1/11/12 the Executive Committee/Central Handicap-Rule Committee
met to address an issue created by a recent implementation of a two yard
yardage reduction by ATA to qualified members. The ATA action
necessitated the below modification in the best interest of those who
participate in both Associations. For those shooters not belonging to ATA
the modification gives their Central Handicap person broader latitude to
grant multiple yard reductions on a case by case basis until April 1, 2012.
    This modification is effective immediately:
Under the authority granted in Section E: Urgency Clause the
following revision to HANDICAP YARDAGE REDUCTION, page 28
of 2011-2012 Official Information and Trapshooting Rules letter (f)
subsection (2), titled Honoring ATA Yardage Reductions is made.
A PITA member meeting the requirements of this section, upon
application, may be granted up to a two (2) yard yardage reduction
to match a like reduction received from the ATA. A reduction
request under these circumstances shall be submitted before April
    1, 2012. The portion of Subsection (h) requiring a minimum of 400
PITA handicap targets, under an 89% average shall not apply to this
rule modification. This modification supersedes paragraph (b) of
the Handicap Yardage reduction section. This rule modification
shall not extend beyond March 31, 2012, and expires on that date.
Justification: Due to exigent circumstances wherein the ATA has
announced, for a limited time period, a two (2) yard yardage
reduction will be offered to qualified members on a one time basis.
This has created a conflict of equality for PITA shooters. If PITA
does not institute a similar opportunity for yardage reduction it will
directly impact those shooters who actively participate in both
Associations. If PITA does not grant a like reduction the
requirement to shoot your longest yardage would have the effect of
nullifying the ATA reduction and in some instances cause the loss of
    PITA membership and/or good will.

Everything considered this was likely a difficult decision in a time crunch and was a classy move by the PITA Officers and Delegates. Well done!

Did they have any other choice and still remain reputable? Or better yet, does the ATA and PITA communicate with each other on any type of business?

Thanks Dan. The PITA has a built in Urgency Clause to deal with situations that show up out of the blue. The new ATA rule for FTF on the 2nd shot in Doubles has been in the PITA rulebook for years.
