I have just watched both of Phil Kiner's instructional videos and he talks about a "Bead Check". My question is after you have the gun set up and the stock fits, why do you need beads at all? Any input on the subject would be great.

    Thanks,
    Chad

I also have Phil's video, and I think that what he is referring to is this: Bead Checking is looking back at the bead/bbl while attempting to tract a moving target. It is a mistake, and Phil is identifying it as a mistake. It is not to be done, because it takes your eyes/focus off the target.

Certainly looking at the front sight while tracking birds is not a good thing for most shooters. There are a few who can successfully shoot this way.

John may not need to check bead alignment after mounting a gun but I do. My head does not always go to the same place on the stock and the stock does not always go to the same place on my shoulder.
