OK, Herco's hunting days are officially over. So yesterday, I was Martin's hunting dog. We went hunting pheasants early in the morning. My first day as his dog was fairly successful, as I scared up 3 pheasants, one at which he was able to take a shot. I watched it fall, then went and found it for him in grass and burrs that we taller than me.

I made him pick it up, however.

Herco is our wire-hair retriever. He has really bad arthritis in his hips and spine.

    Hi, Jim...

Yes, we are definitely going to be up there for the state shoot this year. We will have to borrow some fishing poles, though.

Devi found the Pheasant for Martin and Martin found Devi for Martin. Martin is a good Kansas man, but Devi is special. I am sorry about the problem with Herco. I am a little surprised that Martin did not name the dog Green Dot.

This reminds me... does anyone remember that scene from the movie Joe Dirt when a guy was teaching him about duck hunting? That was pretty stinkin funny.

Devi don't hold it against me when you meet the houligans I shoot with in Anchorage. I look forward to seeing you and Martin again.

Hey, we're not all houligans. I, for one, am a congressionally certified gentleman.

Fleming and Farner, on the other hand...

Hey Devi, I've played dog more times than I can count! The boys especially like it when I know I can see the downed bird in the cattails and tear after it before I realize I don't have my waders on.

I do love pheasant hunting and now I love our bird dog even more than ever. Get yourselves up here to MN and we'll go hunting and make the boys cook for us, eh? So glad to hear you're doing better, sweetie.

Good, I've been trying to shake that problem since I got out 12 years ago.
