Has anyone used either of these products? Planning to use one or the other instead of TruOil since I have been told that they set faster and are easier to work with.

    Thanks

I have used both and prefer the permalyn, it's also less expensive.

If you go with the Permalyn, just stick with about a half dozen rubbed in coats of Permalyn Sealer only. Gives that "in the wood" look of a hand-rubbed oil finish.

Does the finish product make it too glossy?

I was involved with Protostar Technology and we used Permalyn to finish ALL of the Weatherby stocks. We were at one time the sole manufacturer of Weatherby's wood stocks.

    Permalyn is/was great stuff.

We actually used it with ground up walnut dust as a sealer, sanded it down couple of times, then rubbed on the straight Permalyn. We wet sanded several times and then buffed the stocks to get the Weatherby glossy look.

I tried to convince Weatherby to do the satin finish, but they would not.

Protostar finally divorced itself from Weatherby due to them never paying their bill in a timely manner.
