Can't imagine the patients that is required, to do this kind of art work. I would only handle this gun with gloves on, that is after taking it from the glass display case with the alarm system equivalent to a museum.
I am sick! Why do engravers do this???? You put a beautiful english setter looking at a Mallard Duck!. Some of the best engraving I have seen and a grouse would have been perfect with that lovely setter. I see this all the time with pointing dogs pointing or carrying ducks? I guess the engravers have no idea what bird goes with which dog. Put a Lab or a Golden with the duck and a grouse, woodcock, or pheasant with a setter or pointer. Man I can't imagine the skill it takes to do this work, just wish someone would have told them what to put on the gun. This is about the best engraving I've seen on a gun.
To Esetter: with this engraving we did not want represent a hunting scene where the combination setter-duck would it be out of place.
The setter is not pointing the duck and the duck looks like it is flying out of the gun, no connection between the two. We just want to engrave two beautiful animals related to the hunt. The room under the receiver was very limited and we could not think of other animals better looking than a setter and a duck to put on it.
Marcello, the finished product is beautiful! Art is subjective and what I like is not necessarily what the next person would like. We have a saying the the US that you can't please everyone all the time. I can understand Esetter's point. There are certainly some subjects that don't excite me in gun art. But I can certainly appreciate the beauty of creating fine details in steel.
The dog and the duck came out great. To me the portraits that Creative Art do are the best in the business.
The engraving is absolutely stunning. Not trying to downgrade this lovely gun in anyway. Just seems to be a common thread with engravers putting ducks or geese together with pointing dogs. I just don't understand it? God, if there was a grouse with that setter I might sell all of my guns and buy it myself even though I rarely shoot a 12GA gun.
Glad you chose a English Setter, the GREATEST DOG. And I'm not prejudice, just happen to live in the Setters home.
