I have a Perazzi O/U and I am thinking about buying a single barrel for it.
I am not sure which barrels can be used on my receiver.
The receiver is SCO GA, serial number 77371.

Any help from an expert would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Cliff,

I'm not an expert, but you have a Type 4 gun (2 screws in the forearm metal hold the foreend to the metal.

Any square monoblock barrel should fit your receiver.

Some minor fitting may be required, I would have it fit by a competent gunsmith.

Sound like you have a Grand America receiver from around year 1990, a type IV gun.

The barrel for your gun is the same as MX-8, or any of the squared monobloc barrels with type IV under lug if you want to use your own forearm.

Since ser. # on the barrel can be legally changed, and under lug modified, you should check the year code for post "AC" on the monobloc to make sure it's original type IV.

You can also use a type III top single as long as it came with it's own matching forearm. The complete set run approx. the same price as type IV barrel itself.

Here's a picture of the lugs of Type III & Type IV FYR,

    Thanks guys,

This info is very helpful, especially the photo.

My forearm is definitely the type IV.

The markings on monobloc are 77371 and 77372 also Mtr and AU

Seems you have a '89 factory unsingle combo and want to try a top single? I did that years ago. :)

I think there're two or more top singles for sale on TS right now, do a search, you'll see them.

    Have fun.

    Steve,

I traded for the gun 11 or 12 years ago. The gun came with O/U barrels only. I'm n sure if it was a combo originally but it probably was,

It is a beautiful gun, engraved by Pisotti. It has been sitting in the safe and I'm thinking about firing it up before I'm too old.

    Clif,

If the O/U barrel ser. # is one digit off from the receiver, that means the original single barrel is ser. #'d to the gun because in Italy, each barrel shall have it's own #. If you have a four barrel skeet gun set, there'll be 3 sets of #s.

Sound like it's a beautiful gun, maybe you should post a picture of it for us to enjoy.

    OK Steve,
I'm having a particularly bad day trying to post photos (and I have no skills).
I hope you can see these pics.

    Clif,

Looks like you have an SCO Gold GA-88 gun. It may have been a combo and the single barrel has been sold off.

That is a very nice gun and most any square monoblock Perazzi barrel will fit it. The barrel that originally came with these guns was the same as the barrel on the MX-3 Special gun. Pay particular attention to the "Special" in the name, a regular MX-3 gun barrel had a rounded monoblock and will not fit your gun.
