patterning distance

    Plan to pattern tomorrow. From what distance should I shoot.

    13 yards to check for POI. 35 yards for shooting distance pattern.....Ask me:)

    I like 40 yards. This has been the standard for many decades,that is why. That said,pattern at about 35 yds for the 16's & add 1 yard for every yard of handicap. A fast shooter will do less distances. Think about this! You want to see what the pattern is like where you break the bird. You will not,because patterns are really a 3 dimentional thing. Some pellets are moving faster,some slower. Not all move at the same speed. If they did we would have a flat plane pattern. But you will get a general idea.

    I think grntitan is right on the money !
    First check your POI then the pattern.
    You might be surprised.

    POI, either 13 or 20 yds.

    Quality-16yds=32yds

    27yds=42yds

    general=35yds

    Not sure it makes a lot of difference as long as you use the same yardage every time and relate results back to your shooting results experience. I use 3 shots at 30 Yds to establish POI.........SMOKIT
