You may recall that PA legislators were trying to pass HB 2224 in the PA Senate. This bill would have reversed the long standing protections and process for selling public land, parks, trails and open space. Much public land in PA is proected by a 1959 law (Donated and dedicated Property Act 1772 the DDPA) and it is hard to sell public land and rhe process has PA court oversight.

2224 amended DDPA and would have made it easy for local politicians to sell parks and trails to developers to get quick cash for short term budget problems. 2224 even removed the Pa court's oversight from the selling process as a check & balance prior to sale.

For gun clubs, conservationists and others this would have been really bad.

Last night, bill HB 2224 officially died in the PA Senate. Although 2224 made it to the PA Senate calendar, opposition to 2224 was mounting and the Republican leadership did not introduce HB2224 for a vote. The PA Senate is done voting for the 2012 session/year (get that) so 2224 is dead.

Many of you made calls, wrote letters and sent emails to your PA Senators expressing your opposition or concern. This was a powerful display of interest and show of the power of shooters and sportsman, to protect public land and gun club buffer zones.

Other conservation groups, PA land trust organizations etc. mounted an effort to oppose 2224 for the last several months, and the effort was a success.

This is a wonderful story of turning the tide of bad legislation - 2224 had already passed the PA house 197 to 0 earlier in 2012! It looked like a slam dunk for passage in the PA Senate until we all got involved.

Remember that, tell your kids, & know that each call and each vote matters on issues, on legislation and in elections.

Thanks for all of you that helped spread the word and took action - your work hepled to defeat 2224 and our public land remains protected from quick sale by DDPA 1959.
