The program stinks!! Written just like one for a little league Pee Wee team where everyone wins something. You lose when you win!!! Splitting the yardage groups in handicap takes away the fun of the handicap. Now instead of shooting against the field, you only shoot against those in your yardage group. I'll bet you punch the high handicap score based on the total number of shooters, even though the high score only competed against the yardage group. Good way to drive away shooters and keep the numbers down.

This same program is used every month by the Evergreen Gun Club in Washington. This club has 36 traps, over a million population to draw from and only gets 26-35 shooters. This program simply doesn't work!!

Please save the sport and go back to handicap only having one yardage group. That's why it's called handicap.

    Idahojoe,

At least this program does have $2 for the handicap champion.

There is no place in trap handicap for yardage groups. Trap handicap is one yardage group, period.

Trap handicap was intented to have all shooters shoot against the field. That's why there are different yardages assigned. The draw for trap has been the handicap events. The chance to win bigger purses against the entire field.

The above program takes from the best shooters and re-distributes to the lesser shooters. Yardage groups,(Socialism and welfare at it's best). Why do you think golf will spend 3 minutes of national air time to watch someone make a 3 foot putt?? Because, it's a best score gets the most. Second place doesn't count, only the winner. Do you think golf would be on national TV if it was as watered down as the above program??

I don't live any where close to Nevada and will not attend this shoot. When you post the program on a national forum, you should expect comments on the program. Some in favor, some against. My comments were my own concerns about trap handicap (which I love to shoot) becoming another class event with 37 winners. I wish the club the best and hope those that attend will have a great time.

    bb63,

How can the truth be too harsh?? A snitfit?? I hardly think so. It isn't a good program plain and simple.

You seem to be bragging about your "out farther west" programs that make long yardage shooters shoot by themselfs. How can a program that tries to exclude a segment of shooters from the rest be any good? Another truth you might not like, long yardage shooters shoot better than short yardage shooters. Writing programs with the intent of making it impossible for long yardage shooters to even get back target fees, in hopes they won't even come to the shoot, is as far from good as you can get. Even little ole ladies who play Bingo know that to get the best money/prize, you have to play against the field. Yet, grown men are writing programs trying to exclude anyone better than themselfs. BAD, BAD, and BAD!!!

There are no professional trap shooters! Just some are better than the rest.

I do live "out farther west" and the programs here are terrible. When shooters don't show up for the shoot, everyone loses. NO target fees for the club, no daily fees, or event fees for the associations. But, small minded people will think they have won, even though they are competing against no one. I refuse to attend this type of shoot program and save my money and shells for the shoots that are geared for adults.

Don't pat yourself on the back too hard for putting in time at the clubs. I've been playing this game since the early 70's and have had my share of time spent before, during, and after the shoots.

Handicap needs to be handicap, not another class event!!

    bb63,

Are you going to the Boulder City, NV., Boulder Trap Club shoot?? If not, I guess you have no interest to promote registered trapshooting. Might be too much competition for you, as they do offer $2 per entry for Champion.

Whats wrong with purses for the yardage groups?

Hey, I haven't seen a shooter yet that didn't want to take a few bucks home for posting a good score. The 'only one winner' approach is good for only one. Why not lighten up and have some fun?

If its all about the money then you have picked the wrong sport with trapshooting.

I am also fairly disgusted with you 'Thomas' for running down the efforts of a guy that is working on bringing registered trap shooting to his club. If you have in fact been active in a club and attempted to do what Idahojoe is doing then you would be more supportive and appreciative of his efforts.

Joe is doing a great job with the first trap club in Boulder City. He is always asking for POSITIVE information on what people think and would like to see in a shoot program. You all should go there and see what the place looks like and what Joe has had to do. You all will be impressed.

There is going to be a lot of support from us Las Vegans (ATA Shooters) as he is using the first shoot to learn the SSS program he personally bought from George Cook with some help from the folks from Golden Valley, AZ. He is having ATA Big 50 shoots on Tuesday nights and an ATA shoot Nov 2 & 3. Please take time to try the club once.

Tomas your remarks are short sighted and smack of autism.

You need to look up the word handicap.

In golf or shooting a handicap is a little boost to help you compete with others who may be better. When you do good your handicap is lessened.

If you think new shooters want to start out going up against guys who shoot in the high 90's from longer yardage, you need an adjustment.

How do the shoots YOU run do, by the way?

Anyone who is willing to put on a shoot for the shooters is to be commended. Here is wishing Joe and the Trap Club a very successful shoot.

I like the program, I am too far away to go to this shoot but I am also very fed up with these MONEY SHOOTERS who think that ordinary shooters should subsidize their shooting expenses like the 'good old days'.

There are shooters and there are clubs that cater to shooters who like it when everyone wins something ... Thats not to say they are not good programs, shooters, or clubs but they will not draw the same amount of shooters a top loaded program will (usually) ... The people who attend will have a great time and the winners will all go home happy just like any other shoot ... The money has been filtered out or eliminated from trapshooting because shooters for the most part do not play it like they did years ago, to many people thats not a bad thing to others it is ... Hope you all have a Great shoot and continue to promote shooting rather than sit by and watch is fail ... Programs can be changed, altered, or modified at a later date if they find this type of program does not work for them, but you have to start someplace ... WPT ... (YAC) ...
