Seems as though almost everyone has switched to one ounce loads long ago. Anyone still using the ounce and one eighth for anything other than handicap? ed nichols

I do; I'm not a good enough shot to use one ounce.

I do. Quit shooting them years ago when I broke 12 or 13 99's during the season. At the last shoot I switched back to 1 1/8 oz. and broke the hundred. I'm still chicken to try again but would welcome an ATA mandate for 1 oz. only!!

A lot of die hards still shoot 16yd with 1/18oz loads. Some people refuse to change, some people don't know how to change the shot bar in a reloading machine. I have never met anyone that tried a 1oz load at 16 and didn't like it. Seems to be mostly the old timers that still use them. Guys who shoot 870's and BT's really appreciate the difference in recoil. Guys who are math capable also understand that every 8 shells gets you a free one. This was very popular last year when shot was $45.00 a bag.

If one ounce is the real deal, why don't the top shooters use them?

I still shoot 1 1/8 loads. I never officially switched over to 1 ounce although I did try them a few times hoping I could find that magic 1 ounce load.

I'm currently using Downrange Windjammer 1 1/8 wads with the STS hull.

If you weigh the shot throw from a 1 1/8 bar, the hard shor will probably be about 1 1/16 oz. unless you've altered the bar.

Do you adjust the powder drop and use a one ounce or ounce and eighth wad or will both work? Read some time ago Debbie uses ounce and one eighth for both shots at doubles. Maybe her gun patterns this load better. ed

I shoot 1 1/8 oz loads (except for the first shot of doubles). I do know a lot of shooters but I can't think of any AA shooters who do not use 1 1/8 oz loads. I am sure there are some, I just can't recall any.

For the sake of brevity I made that statement. What I should have said was the vast majority of shooters in my area...I live in New York near the Pa border have switched over to one ounce loads...as far as other parts of the country of course I can't say. Hope I've made myself clearer. ed

I shoot 1oz #8's for singles and both shots of doubles, for practice and registered targets. I also use them for practice from the 27 to keep the recoil down and this also let's me shoot more. The less pounding I take, the less likely I will have to go to a release.

I use the PW 5.5 with bulkier powders, i.e. Green Dot and PB. Makes for a much better packed and crimped shell.

Loading down from 1 1/8th is like putting a windsheild on your motorcycle. I'm hard core. Always will be. Jim

If more people would weigh their shot, more people would realize that they actually shoot 1 1/16 oz instead of 1 1/8 oz of shot.
