OW! I think it's one of those do hickeys you put between your comb and your cheek so you don't lift your head off the stock.. You drop that long sharp thing down the front of your pants and put the ring between your cheek and the stock. Yup, that's what it is!

Buzz-gun is once again correct. I can still see the 19th century blood and feces stains on the shaft end of the tool.

Is it definitely shooting related? Or are you asking here because you know everyone here knows everything?

It kinda looks like a collapsible fish gaff but the point doesn't look sharp enough.

Oh yes. Viewed from the other side, I think I can see a bit of polyp stuck on there, too.

I guess Blood-letting was an integral part of 19th century proctology...

Could be a fishing lure of some type. You can see what appears to be a large hook attached with the barb coming out of the top. The hook seems to be able to pivot down and away from the main body. The cable leader would indicate it was used for very large fish with strong teeth, shark perhaps?

It is not shooting related. My thought is that it is Military, possibly some type of quick release hold down for something? It looks too expensive for the goverment NOT to be involved somehow!
