gm doesn't make anything new untill someone else makes something and they HAVE to (copy it) to compete. they are still making the same boat anchor engine since 1955. everyone else has gone high tech with new engines many times over. Toyota had to make an antique motor to run nascar (there is another joke) the good ol boys still use carburators, guess they have a big stockpile of holleys they want to use. oz
Thanks Joe, for the link showing what trucks not to buy. I will confess, though, to buying a Dodge Ram which is on the list, but I made sure mine was made in Mexico.
The mind set is the fall of quality in this country. give me a ford chevy gm that doesnt need a full front suspension over haul every 36,001 miles. I cant remember the last time i did a ball joint on a toyota truck. One thing I will say is the toyota 4runner is probably the worst toyota. Head gasket issues yes seen them, front diff self destructing seen a hand full. Over all The so called American branded cars/trucks have let us down. Many many people have been holding on as long as possible hoping it will get better, they have had to fix these problems by now ect ect. MO there is far to much electrical crap on all of them, to many MODULES!!!!! no longer good repair info. God forbid we get a good wire diagram. Also the tool manufactures are way behind. A few weeks ago the tool guy walked in with a neat tool to pull the hub/rotor assembly off the older trapped brake rotor style. About 8 years to late.
Toyota is one of the best trucks on the road. The american big three should have looked at this years ago. The american public was setting in the big three dealerships waiting rooms for there auto to be fixed from the factory defects and bad parts from mexico or canada. Look at the jobs and benefits they have put back into the american workers pockets and the steel mills that are still going out there. They are making the best and thats where my money is going. To keep the american works out there going and not to be fighting a lie in Iraq.
K80Dude the difference is that the Japanese shipped American Soldiers, taken prisoner from the Bataan death march, to Japan and used them as slave labor. I for one can't buy a vehicle from the same companies that used American Soldiers for slave labor.
bustedemall....I think we got even with the japanese, we nuked 'em. get over it. I'm sure you love the japanese baseball players too. Toyota is the best truck bar none, and it is made in the USA, unlike the big 2-4. oz
"And the profits go to?" - The profits go to the shareholders like any other publicly traded corporation. Like it or not, we live in a global economy and as others have pointed out, many "American" cars are fabricated in other countries then hauled here for sale.
Take a look across the border in Mexico and in Canada and you'll see car plants. Thank your politicians and NAFTA for that.
