I was a little bored this morning so I looked through my DVD collection for something to watch. Dr. Strangelove caught my eye and I watched it twice and am now watching it a third time. The martial music played during the B-52 scenes really gets my blood pumping.

At a whim, I did some research on the movie over the internet and found that it is ranked #3 on the American Film Institute list of the top 100 comedy movies in American cinema.

I thought some of you may want to take a break from flaming each other and maybe laugh a little. Here is the AFI’s list of the top 100 comedy movies in the past century. How many do you remember?

This movie is a dark comedy and there are many good (in a tragic sense) lines such as:

“Well boys, this is it, nuclear combat toe to toe with the Ruskies!” Major King Kong. (Slim Pickens)

“I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.” General Jack D. Ripper (Sterling Hayden)

“Does that plane really have a chance of getting through? President Merkin Muffley (Peter Sellers)

“If that pilots any good, he can barrel that baby in so low that, (excited laughter) you ought to see it sometime, a big plane like a B-52, (Rooom!) frying chickens in the barnyard!” … “Hell yes, he can get through!” General Buck Turgidson (George C. Scott)

Do you remember the movie? What are your favorite lines?

In my opinion (does anyone care) the top three suck. I couldn't get all the way through either of them.

Why don't we ask Zip Zip his opinion. He knows a lot about movies.

Come on "My Cousin Vinny" didn't make the top 100? That list has no credibility based on that alone.

" Candygram for Mongo, Candygram for Mongo" - " Mongo like candy "... Gosh, I could watch that a million times and laugh as hard as the first every time I see it. I remember a talkshow at the time asked Clevon Little " How can you let somebody call you a N*****"?? He replied " 3 million dollars baby,... they can call me whatever they want". I believe it was the Dick Cavat show, I think. That was almost as funny as the movie...

I can think of two good Irish comedies:"Waking Ned Devine" and "The Quiet Man".
The fight scene in The Quiet Man between Victor Mclaglen and John Wayne is the best fight scene in any movie.Ward Bond fighting the giant trout is another good scene.

I always thought that Planes,Trains, and Automobiles, The Money Pit were hilarious. I even still have some Buster Keaton on VHS, they just dont make them like that anymore. That man just looks funny, and didnt have to say a word.......
