I think it is a voluntary thing with telemarketing companies and the feds to avoid a legal showdown over the constitutionality of the law, but this may have changed and I missed it.

Regardless, you may notice that some of the calls are from political campaigns or marketing surveys of one sort or another. I'm pretty sure the law only applies if they are trying to sell you something.

Moreover, you need to first register your phone number on the national do not call list.

Southpark is right the registry is for telemarketing, I was told when I called that the registry does not apply if a Company is calling only for a survey.

If you have recently (and I don't know the exact time frame definition of "recently") done business with a company, then they are exempt from the provisions of the Do Not Call list for a certain length of time.<br>

Political parties and politicians are exempt.<br>

Cut the cord with the land line companies and go cellular. It's even cheaper!

Places you do business with and election propaganda are exempt. If you tell them "remove me from your list", it's my understanding they must respect you. Michael

I am on the "do not call list" and don't get any telemarketing calls. It has worked out well for me.

However, I do get those DAM political calls (yes, know they are exempt!).

I was curious to see if my status on the do not call list is still active. I went to the URL above to verify my status and got the following e-mail In return.

    Frank

Your phone number with the last four digits 4365 was registered in the
National Do Not Call Registry on 8/30/2003. Most telemarketers will be
required to stop calling you 31 days from your registration date. Your
registration will (or did) expire on 8/31/2008.

<blockquote>"In January of this year all cell numbers were made available to all telemarketers. There is another do not call website for you to register your cell number, just can't remember it right now."</blockquote>

The FCC says you're spreading unfounded rumors again "Truth About Cell Phones and the DNC Registry" . The National No-Call List also deals with cell phones as well as land lines although cell phone users need not apply....and telemarketers are prohibited from using computerized dialing equipment to call cell phone numbers.
