I am shopping for insurance and they are the bottom bidder so far and we are comparing apples to apples. What kind of rep do they have? Any bad experiences? Should I look elsewhere? Thanks!!!

Everything on my farm, including farm equipment, buildings, automobiles, home, and irrigation equipment is insured by them. I would give them a five star rating. BRGII

Check out this website before you make a decision about your insurance. My company did not make the list-Nationwide.

I thought I saved this as a link but it didn't work. Can someone help out?

They had an automatic $2500 coverage on guns and if you wanted more, it is $1 per 100. I have quotes from Farmers, Shelter, Allstate, and three local companys. I have four vehicles, house, and some farm ground to insure. State Farm has beat my present co, Farmers, by $400. I have never used State Farm before but if I can save money.....

I, too, have autos, pickup, home, and RV with State Farm and it's been that way for a very long time. I spent some time in Insurance claims/fraud investigations and have just enough knowledge to get in trouble with that but watched an adjuster come to my daughter's home damaged by a freak wind storm in Oregon and he sat with his lap top and generously calculated all her of her loss, repairing a roof more generously than I hoped for, and issued a check on the spot including her time in a motel and food expenses including freezer losses while electricity was down. Two thumbs up so far.....Bob Dodd

I would say that if State Farm is not competitive in a given market it's because they choose not to be!!

Had SF on all vehicles and homes for 30 years. No complaints.
They had competitive rates when I started with them 30 years ago, and haven't found a reason to change.

As an insurance agent for many years I have seen my customers have collisions with every company's insureds on the face of the earth and then some. Some claims are far more straight forward then others and as such are much more easily handeled to a clients ( or a claimn'ts car) satisfaction. It's just not as easy as who has the best rate. My question always has been this.. How did XYZ Mutual handle your last claim? That is the point where people that have been with farmers, State farm, allstate etc Etc often sad.. OH? Well, We have never had a claim. Well.... If you have never had a claim that what has the company done that makes people always say that such and such company has always been" Good" to them. Good meaning they have always taken your money and not complained? each state has a list of complaints filed against insurers that can be had from the Department of Insurance. Go there and see how your company stacks up and you may be suprised. It's just not as easy as State farm or XYZ Mutual.Jeff

Cheap rates lousey service. I quite them years ago when they wouldn't settle a claim for full value of my vehicle after being run into by a speeding black guy with no license, no registration, and no insurance because he tried to sue me. State Farm said the cost of defending me reduced my settlement even though the black guy was at fault and was issued a ticket for the incedent and I wasn't. Post-2

You had better do some research. State Farm lost a major class action for auto repairs that ripped off policyholders. They are or were majorly investigated over claims as a result of the Hurricane Katrinia. I believe they are in a battle with the Florida Ins. Commission over failure of full disclosure in rate making.

Does this make them bad?? Not necessarily but your idol has clay feet and they do not always have the best rates. Buyer beware.

If you have AAA (American Aotuomobile Assoc.) in your area...that's who to contact!

Over the years one house claim and 2 auto claims...they bend over backwards to help you!

I would guess the agent has alot to do with how good the company is, to a point. I have zero issues with Farm Bureau, if I have a claim I call them and they jump thru hoops to make sure I'm taken care of. But........I've been with them 45 years too.

I went shopping several years ago just to check out rates, the only company that quoted lower than what I am paying was Progressive------and because of their anti-gun stance they weren't ever in the running anyway.

Here, State Farm only has a mediocre rep, FARMERS------no way in hell would anyone I know have anything to do with them, no one in Texas that I know of. I guess some people have short memories.

First fringe benefit to FB that comes to mind, if I go buy a new pickup-----they pay $500 of it. There's included death benefits by accident but it isn't much, several member perks for using them.

But.........if there isn't alot of cost difference and you've got a good history with your present company, I'd think long and hard about moving.

I can honestly tell you that I'm very happy with State farm. Been with them for 25 + yrs. now. I've had vehicle windows broken out, hail damaged vehicles, and I've been sued for a three wheeler accident involving my daughter. State Farm paid out $12,500.00 on the lawsuit, they also provided me with an attorney free of charge. Funny how things work though, my daughter was driving a friend's 3 wheeler at said friends house, a friend of her's was riding on it with her. They clipped a trailer tongue that was hidden by some tall weeds. Since I did not own the 3 wheeler, and the accident happened off road, my homeowner's policy paid the claim for me. If I would have been the owner, or it would have happened on a roadway my goose would have been cooked. I've always been treated fairly well, with the exception of the last hail damage I had, still got a settlement, but it was lower due to the fact that they wanted to go with the paintless dent removal instead of thetraditional repair method. Other than this claim I've been very, very pleased with their insurance.

On the other hand, plenty of people in my area were pretty upset with State Farm last year after a Tornado went thru here. I know of several people who have since switched companies because of how they were (weren't) treated to the service they thought they'd paid for.

Texas Ton has it right. An good agent makes all the difference in the world. I've also had the same agent all this time and now his son is helping out and he will just as good as his Dad.

If you all would bother to go to the website I posted you would find that Allstate, State Farm, AIG and Farmers are in the very top of the top ten worst insurance companies. The article also states that State Farm is on the way to the top with a bullet.

Was with SF for 30 years had no claims then 2 years in a row had claims of water damage to the house. I had to threaten legal action to get them to cough up the money for the last damages. Then they sent a notice that they were dropping me. How can a company stay in business if it treats it's customers that way and just drops them? I could see it if they said "because of your claims we need to raise your rates" and then make me decide if I wanted to drop them or stay, but their way seems like bad business to me.

Insurance companies are just another way to say Casino. It's just a way of gambling on disaster......and they don't have a Buffet but sometimes you get to see them do a Floor Show.

Years ago they dropped me after I collected on some hail damage to 2 vehicles and 3 buildings.

American Family has the best gun coverage, $5 thousand dollars, but I am switching because of a shitty agent.
