I have an old Colt 1911 made in 1918. I’d rather not shoot it alot, I need to buy another 1911. Considering that we can’t buy Colts, Kimbers, Springfield Arms, Sig 1911’s or Auto Ordnance or any of the higher grades custom 1911’s in Massachusetts. I was thinking of the Smith 1911DK. Does anyone have an experience with these guns?

I would pay the slightly higher $$ and get the performance center 1911. I had one and loved it......traded it for my current trap gun. I took a 175.00 hit. Check out Fourseasons in wouborn Ma....BEST prices for handguns. FOURSEASONS YOU MUST CHECK THEM !!!!!!!!

Thanks maclellan1911, I had already contacted fsguns, they gave me a price of $980.

Colonel Klink, the guns mentioned are only a small part of a list of guns we can't buy. You see gun are dangerous, some more than others according to our past attorney general. Guns need to pass comprehensive testing in Massachusetts. Some gun companies can’t comply, others choose not to. As a result we get screwed.

I have a 1911 Doug Koenig model. The gun is absolutely awesome, one of my favorite .45s. You will not be unhappy if you purchase one. Also it is one of the best looking out of the box guns that doesn't cost several thousand dollars.

Just curious, what feature(s) does the S&W 1911 have that make it safe or acceptable in MA?

wolfram, it has a 10 pounds trigger and needs to pass a drop test at 10 feet (i think). I'm sure their are other stipulations however every time I begin to read them I get so frustrated I stop reading.

I've shot a couple of the S&W 1911s. They shoot better than I do. No feeding or mechanical troubles and they worked flawlessly with all types of ammo, target to personal protection. If it's one of the only options for you and the price is affordable, It wouldn't be a bad choice.

Most manufactures have not summitted there handguns for testing...requires 5 guns I believe and 10,000.00 in testing fees. Kimbers and Les Bear would out sell SW in a heart beat. Fourseasons guns in wouborn has pleaded with kimber to send in guns. I think they even said they would pay for the guns? O well A few used ones pop up here and there. Last I checked Fourseasons had some great used 45s set up for tsrget shooting.

This is interesting. Since you are in MA, go over to Springfield to the Smith Store where you can rent and try various Smiths. While you are at it, if you are a motorcycle fan, go down the street and check out the Indian Motorcycle Museum of the nice lady there has opened it up again. Buy a gun you like and send it to a 'smith, e.g., Wilson's for a trigger job???
