I see the Oscar broadcast is on tonight. In an effort to get a discussion going on something other than the Grand/$100,000/New Shell controversy, I offer the following: What do you think are the greatest mistakes made in awarding the Oscars over the years?

    Some of mine include -

Worst Best Picture choice: "Shakespeare in Love" over "Saving Private Ryan"

Worst Best Actor Choice: Some hack in "Shakespeare in Love" over Tom Hanks in "Saving Private Ryan"

Best Picture not even considered: "Tombstone"

Best Performance by an Actor not even nominated: Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in "Tombstone"

How about some of your nominations?

Tombstone is the best movie ever made, that's for sure....

My personal favorite line is when Doc explains he's doing this "because Wyatt Earp is my friend."

and the reply is "Hell, I got a lot of friends."

    "I don't"

That just about says it all. Hell, I know a LOT of folks. I like a lot of folks...and maybe, just maybe a few like me back.

but I don't have a lot of friends.

It has been my observation that as you go through life you will have lots of aquaintances but very few friends. Dave Inman

It wasn't released as a movie but rather a mini series but Lonesome Dove is the best movies I've seen & Robert Duval get's my vote for best actor. Him playing Gus was a joy to watch.

Show's how PC hollywood is...they hate war movies...saving Private Ryan wasn't PC and Tombstone wasn't a chick flick...

The Hurt Locker is a war movie and it won Best Picture, Best Director, best sound and many others. It was the first time a woman (Katherine Bigelow) won the best director award. Her ex-husband is James Cameron director of another nominated film "Avatar".
