I have an Orphium "3" guitar manufactured around 1938. Does anyone know anything about this instrument. Quality? Value?

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure that it was manufactured in 1938. I do know that that is when my dad aquired it. It's possible that it was purchased used.

Ed, while it is quite possible that Orpheums can be fake, yours from that time period is likely very valuable.Do some research. I am a banjo collector and have a few.

Ed, my Vintage Guitar Price Guide shows a value of $900 to $1200. This is for a 1930's slot head, Dobro style, metal resonator, sunburst. It lists it as an Orpheum Special, (Regal-made). As Switchblade said, Geo. Gruhn is the authority on collector values. An online appraisal service is offered. Here's the phone # (615)256-2033 J.Woolsey

You need a detailed description and pics to really find out the value, and then it's still only worth as much as what someone will pay.
Vintage guitars like these are only of value to collectors of vintage guitars like these, and they are few and far.
An idea would be to put great pics and details on ebay with a low starting bid, and a high reserve for a ten day worldwide auction.
Ask in your description if anyone can give more information.
Also add the make an offer link, and put other collectable guitar names in the description, such as "59 les paul", "vintage stratocaster", and "vintage martin".
If it has any value or interest, someone will bid, or make an offer.
The cost of your listing fees will be like an appraisal fee.
Another option is to take it to the big guitar show in July at the Valley Forge convention center in July and ask around.
Some vintage guitars can be worth hundreds of thousands, and some are only worth a couple hundred.
Allot depends on the maker, type, and condition.
I have a friend with a guitar shop on 611 in Doylestown.
He doesn't deal in these very old guitars, but maybe he could help you find someone who does. dtownguitars.com

I looked at the ones on ebay but they're not like mine which is an "f" hole style, not electric. It has some pretty inletting around the edges. Would a picture help?

    Edward,

You can save us all a lot of churning by posting a picture...when you get into "house-branded" items, the name alone doesn't always tell much.

I saw a similar number three on the net in about the same condition that sold for $450, so I figure that's about what you should expect as far as value. That website would probably like to have pics and info on it, as the no 3's they show have a different headstock logo than yours. What are your intentions with the guitar?

I'd like to learn how to play it if the price of lead and gas doesn't go down.

Ed, your instrument is not what I sent you info on. The instrument I was quoting was a resonator type. Once again George Gruhn will take those pics and pretty well know what you have and it's worth. Good luck J.Woolsey

I myself own a few .....the best one I own is an original 1957 near mint Fender Strat ......part of my retirement someday ......or my sons inheritance
