Conservatives everywhere will mourn the passing of this great man.

William F. Buckley will be greatly missed.

PS - I'm sure he probably used #8's from the 16.

    Best,
    Dennis

He was both an intellectual and nice person. I enjoyed him very much.

He had one heck of a vocabulary.

I didn't agree with everything he said, but I did respect the man.

Here are a couple of wonderful paragraphs from a long article by Hillel Italie of the AP

"Yet on the platform, he was all handsome, reptilian languor, flexing his imposing vocabulary ever so slowly, accenting each point with an arched brow or rolling tongue and savoring an opponent's discomfort with wide-eyed glee."

    and later

". . .Even historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr., who labeled Buckley "the scourge of American liberalism," came to appreciate his "wit, his passion for the harpsichord, his human decency, even ... his compulsion to epater the liberals."

I met him. I was sitting on a beach on Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas, it was 1979 or 1980. When he walked by I offered him a chair and a cold beer. He took both. I had a very pleasant conversation with him, mostly about the local people and the fishing. I didn't pretend to know who he was until he left and I said by the way, I'm a big fan. He said "thank you and thanks ever so much for the beer".

He was a great man - and he only used 7 1/2s.

He was the stalwart of conservatism for so many years. Intellectually he was way over my head, but what I did comprehend I agreed.
