I got a new 1 -1/2hp Leeson electric motor for a saw we have in the shop. Anyway the rotation is wrong. Can I change the rotation on this motor.

The tag that came with the motor says, rotation: - CWLE clockwise wise lead end? What does that mean?

The catalog for engine has Rotation: CW-OSE

Can I change the rotation direction on this engine? Wonder why tag on motor says CWLE and catalog for motor has CW-OSE or is that the same thing.

Tried to do "Google search" but haven't had much luck so far.

    Thanks in advance.

Typically there will be an access plate on the end of the motor (or a raised housing on the side). Inside will be a set of wires and connectors, there should also be a guide or diagram to allow for changing rotation and/or voltage.

Follow the color codes and wiring stud placements to change rotation or input voltage.

    Good luck,

Many single phase motors are not readily reverseable. JImmy Borum

That motor is not reverseable' if it were reverseable it would have two extra wires out of the end plate so you could exchange them to reverse it, and on the box it would say reverseable.

Thanks guys. Tomorrow morning I'll open the wiring box and see what it has inside.

I do know I can change the wiring to make it either a 120 or 240v motor.

CWLE-Clockwise rotation (looking at it from the lead end or where the wire goes in)...CWOSE-Clockwise "Opposite Shaft End" or the same as CWLE.

Opened the wiring box and found the schematic. Interchanged 2 leads and got motor to reverse rotation.

    Thanks for your input

That's great, but does the motor have an internal fan that is designed to move air in only one direction?

Tron, I guess I'll find out in the next week or two. If it burns up I guess we'll know then.
