The Oregon DMV, egged on by their public employees union, posted signs banning firearms from their offices.

First, firearms are already banned from state government buildings.

Except, that there is an exemption for concealed handgun license holders.

But, DMV did not bother to note that. In fact, DMV cited ORS166-360, which only provides definitions for the actual law, which is ORS166-370. Why would they make this "mistake"? So people would not see the exemption for CHL.

What was the justification for this? Because a car dealer in southern Oregon got a car jacked while demonstrating it.

    Wait, what?

That's right. It had absolutely nothing to do with DMV offices.

Apparently DMV union employees are so afraid of crime that they want guns banned. They ask why would someone need a gun when going to the DMV?

If DMV offices are that unsafe, then that strongly suggests law-abiding citizens need to be armed when visiting them.

Lots of good comments plus the actual text of ORS166-360 and 166-370 at the link.
