I have never noticed a reduction in recoil with my ported chokes. There are plenty of good ones, I have a colonial arms that I like.

My opinion only...porting a choke tube is way too little, way too late.
There are too many other, more efficient ways to reduce felt recoil.

By calculation, at most, they can reduce recoil by no more than about 2 percent on a target load.

Is you shoulder able to tell? I'd bet not.

Oh, and they can't reduce muzzle rise, either.

Recoil reduction is not the main reason, nor the major benefit, of ported choke tubes.

Wad control, along with extended portion for pattern improvement.

Ports are for wad grabbing and pressure venting.

That's all I know. Except for, if the choke is designed properly, it works very well. Good day.

As we all know, steel that is shaped into a tube always gets holes in it, but I have developed a means to eliminate the holes. The benefits are less muzzle rise, less recoil, smaller sound signature, and "better" patterns from a smooth exit by the wad. No more pattern destroying wad grabbing by those nasty little holes, no more wads exiting at an angle from non-linear, side-shear wad loading, no more angular shot direction re-directing from wad distortion created by the damaged wad imparting multi-directional inertial fromenance to the pellets. Be the first on your squad to get that extra target using the revolutionary new SMOOTH choke tube.

I did not buy my Kick's smoke ported choke for the reduction of recoil but I did buy it because they pattern well with my gun and reloads. I have the ones that come with the gun and some of them pattern good and some do not. I have wright's chokes and they seem to be good also. So yes there is a difference in chokes.

The ports are there to allow you to use a punch (I like to use a little Xcelite green handled screwdriver) to tighten/loosen the choke, as needed. ;-)

Theoretically they should work. On a more practical note, thay are a waste of money and hard to clean. john
