Obama: "We're Not Going To Mess With" Americans' Guns
    Posted by Maria Gavrilovic| 106

    (CBS)From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(DURYEA, PA.) It’s been almost 6 months since Obama suggested that people cling to guns because they are bitter, a.k.a. “bitter-gate,” but he is still plagued by questions about his position on gun control. At a town hall meeting today, a voter told Obama that there are rumors that he is going to take away guns. “People love hunting,” the man told Obama.

Obama said he is aware that the issue is being “peddled again and again,” but he assured the crowd that he will not take away guns that are legally obtained.

“I believe in the Second Amendment, and if you are a law-abiding gun owner, you have nothing to fear from an Obama administration!”

Obama said his support for gun safety measures – such as background checks- does not mean that he opposes all gun ownership.

“Now, the NRA sometimes... their general attitude is look, we don’t want anything, and if you even breathe the word ‘gun control’ or ‘gun safety,’ then you must want to take away everybody’s guns. Well, that’s just not true,” he said adding that illegal guns are his concern, not those used for sportsmanship.

He also keenly noted that even if he intended to take away guns, he would not have the power to do so as president. “I couldn’t get it done. I don’t have the votes in Congress.”

As he wrapped up his rather lengthy explanation, Obama urged the crowd to look at his policies on the economy and health care rather than gun control.

“This can’t be the reason not to vote for me,” Obama said, “Because your guns... we’re not going to mess with them... spread the word with your friends.”
k this out. What do you think?

Would you infiltrators please go back to democratic underground, daily kos, huffpo or wherever the hell you came from?

You'll get no positive response or converts to your cause here. Muckrakers like you only serve to alienate the regulars on this forum. Perhaps you see it as great fun, but it is getting tedious.

Obama is anti-gun, PERIOD! He will restrict whatever he can and allow his compadres to legislate your rights away, one piece at a time. The scariest part is that he could have the ability to appoint some very liberal Supreme Court Justices. The recent decision on the second ammendment was too close for comfort. As for the "Messiah", he is a politician and will tell you whatever he needs to get your support (money) or vote. Once he is in, it's a different story. Look at where he is from. Illinois is not friendly to firearms owners and he is even more liberal (anti-gun) than the powers that be in Chicago. I believe quite strongly, that a vote for Obama is a vote to eliminate ALL guns. No Exceptions.

He seems to have supported it before and if he is counting the votes he does not yet have then he must be considering it.

And it alone is more than enough not to vote for him or anyone else.

In the past he has stated in his own words that is wants to ban the sale and possession of handguns by ANYBODY except the military and police. He has advocated the ban of ALL semi automatic firearms(to me ALL means ALL)! He has voted against Gun owners and for restrictive gun laws IN EVERY CASE! Now all of a sudden he "supports the second ammendment"???!! Only a complete FOOL would think so!

Slick Willie in black clothing. He's knows he can get more votes by avoiding his real thoughts, and the people already wanting to vote for him won't use that statement against him.

OBAMA IS A LIAR. HE WILL BAN GUNS.

He has stated so quite clearly in the past and all through this election. It's only now that he is losing his lead that he is panicking.

The presidential primary season is finally over, and it is now time for gun owners to take a careful look at just where apparent nominee Barack Obama stands on issues related to the Second Amendment. During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for “sportsmen” or unfounded claims of general support for the right to keep and bear arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties. Don’t listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.
Anyone who would ignore his RECORD on firearms issues, and be placated by campaign rhetoric is probably too stupid to own firearms in the first place.
My Daddy would say...either Obama is an idiot (to think people will NOW believe he's "pro-second amendment")OR...he thinks YOU'RE an idiot, and will believe him. Either way...there's an idiot in there somewhere.

The answer is staring us right in the face.

Linda Chavez writes: Recalling in his memoir how he dealt with his mother when she confronted him about drug and alcohol use in high school, he confides a bit about his methods: “I had given her a reassuring smile and patted her hand and told her not to worry, I wouldn’t do anything stupid. It was usually an effective tactic, another of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves.”

It worked on Mrs. Obama. It worked on the mainstream media. How much longer will it work on the voting public? We’ll soon have a chance to find out.

Obama is now giving gun owners a reassuring smile, patting our hands, and telling us not to worry.

emm2, maybe you could provide a link to support you assertion? Maybe to McCains's website or some other credible site? Or maybe, you just didn't get a good look at the facts peeking out of your belly button.
