I have been looking at buying a LN with box S&W 686 SS .357 mag. 4" barrel (I believe). Primary purpose would be target/home defense.

Great design by Smith. A little larger frame than the 19 and 66, will take lots more use of full loads than the predecessors but still has the K size grip. Think about getting the plus model...gives you the capacity of a 1911 in a revolver. (even though the bore is .095" too small). I have both a 686+ and a 625 and neither has given me a moment's hesitation or trouble in the many years I've been using them.
