I had a junior tiller and had to send it back. There fine if you have a softer, sandy soil but if you have a heavy clay type soil they turn into bucking broncos. Would till a little and hit a hard spot and jump right up,and take off on me.They make one with a counter-rotating tines that is supposed to work better on hard pack.I think the one I had was a six horse unit. I hope this helps...Ray

I have a mid 50's 'horse' model. It is 8 hp and 24" wide. My ground is mostly clay although I have mixed in a lot of leaves and grass clippings over the years. All I have ever changed is one set of tines and a few spark plugs.
