The two Von Maur employees wounded in the shootings are still in the hospital but have been upgraded to fair and good. The entrance to the store from the mall has been covered with memorials and tributes. Wednesday evening they will have a ceremony and then take them all down until they decide on a permanent memorial. The Von Maur store will open Thursday morning.

NE requires a permit to purchase a handgun. The week of the shooting, 43 applications were processed in Douglas County. The week after the shooting, 105 applications were approved. More applications have been given out and expected to return soon. Sarpy County reported a slight increase in applications also. Some of this is due to the Christmas buying season. CCW classes have been reported full since the shooting. While many people are taking the classes, fewer than expected people are filing for the CCW permit after passing the class and range test. I have heard that the way the NE CCW law is written, that permit holders will be held to a higher standard than NON permit holders. Many are taking the class and deciding not to conceal their weapon instead.

The victims have a fund set up at the local bank. The total now stands at $312,000 dollars, so far.

While at the trap range Sunday, we were told by an employee of Sportsman's Warehouse that Denver PD called all of the stores and told them they were to sell NO assault 'type" rifles as a result of Omaha and the CO church shootings. They acknowledged that there was no law prohibiting the sales, but if SW didn't comply, they would "make their life miserable". Although this has not been absolutely confirmed, it seems to jive with the heavily liberal political climate in metro Denver. It's getting tougher to tell the good from the bad.

I found it interesting that the church in Colo Springs asked the member to leave who was shot by the gunman. What is up with that? Omaha

Last night they boxed up all the cards and signs for the family to sort through. The rest will be given to the historical society to build a permanent memorial. The victims fund stands at $343,000 and the Von Maur Corporation added another $500,000 to the total. The store was going to try and open today. One male victim is in the hospital is still recovering but improving. He was shot in the back and lost so much blood that he quit bleeding. He had no pulse by the time the rescue squad got him to the hospital. He was able to talk with reporters. He realizes how close to death he came. He watched the shooter approach them no knowing who was the shooter. Each famliy of the deceased was already given $5,000 to help with expenses. It is a sad moment in history, but I hope that other people will support the victims as this town and store have done. IMHO Omaha

It sounds like the company used the time closed to completely redo the customer service area where most of the shootings took place. Good Idea. The male who was shot (almost bled to death) has been allowed to go home. Good news in Omaha. Omaha
