OH MY GOD!!!!!! Shot three rounds of ATA trap at my club. High 20's. The club had the International trap range open, which they rarely do, and two members of the US Olympic Team were practicing. I was invited to shoot with them. I have never shot International trap before. Very humbling experience. I am not sure that ATA trap prepares our shooters for the Olympics.

ATA trap is not designed to prepare shooters for the Olympics. As you found out, they are two different shooting sports. Those who want to prepare for Olympic trap, practice on Olympic trap fields shooting Olympic trap.

    Jim,

Were you shooting at Saddle & Sirloin? they seldom have the bunker open. I've shot there once as a guest.

    Indeed, very humbling.

OMG is an appropriate statement after one's first round of Intl'. I shot a 20 my first round, and have been hopelessly addicted ever since.

    yakimaman,

It appears the original poster is a partner in a Kansas City law firm, so I suspect the answer to your question is, yes.

He said high 20's in ATA. He didn't say what he got at bunker. Lucky if he got halve even with two shots.

Sorry, but OH MY GOD! in exclamation from an adult man is just so wrong. I guess you could put your hands on your cheeks (face) and squeal the phrase; then you'd sound like the little girls who constantly use it.

How do you shoot in the "high
20's" when there are only 25 targets in
    a round? New math?

Shot my first ever round of bunker trap at Ben Avery after they opened their trap. First bunker shooting I'd ever seen in person, have watched it on TV but thats not at all like it really is with a gun in hand!

I shot a 19/25 with my doubles gun which weighs 11 pounds and 5 ounces. High that day was about a 21-22 from all the shooting I watched. Very easy to tell who was the experienced bunker shooters from the novice!! A fun but very quick game, kinda reminded me of ruffed grouse shooting, poke n hope!

Shooting Bunker Trap is a whole different game. The speed, the concentration and the physical challenge all make it really fun. It is a whole lot different set of skills than ATA trap. Both are great sports.

Olympic trap looks like musical chairs with shotguns. One bird and then move stations? No thanks but it's fine for those who like it just don't put down my American Trap and if you tell me it's too easy come shoot a 400 for me and I'll agree with you.

Olympic trap is a quality vrs quantity game. Each bird is twice as hard so you only have to shoot half as many.
